Featured Projects My 1936 Ford Coupe Traditional Custom

It has a 21 stud in it, but I have a 49A at the machine shop right now. I have an 2x2 Edelbrock slinghsot and Canadian heads for it.

So Chris has been busy and here are some progress pics on the fender skirts. He got a really great curve on the skirt that flows oh so good.

Nice to see traditional skirts rather than flush mount.

 

So much good work! That is looking real sharp! I would have liked to do a similar thing with the grille when I built mine, but after trying to get my hands on a decent LaSalle grille (in one piece) I gave up and just got busy with steel rod. Keen to see this finished!

I read the whole post and watched all the videos.........man the '36 is Killer Diller.

I didn't want to follow the trend of cutting the fender to make flush mounted skirts. I was really just wanting the car to be as traditional as I could. Thanks for noticing it

 

Beautiful roadster, that's definitely on my bucket list of future cars to buy. You did an excellent job on your roadster.
Weird thing about mine, is someone made it, who knows when, it's one piece cast. It's rough, just needs some good filing and polishing.

I didn't even know that was a thing...had to look it up. It's good to live under a rock sometimes.......now I can't unsee the flush mounts, 60s and some 50s maybe, but prewar no thanks.

Love the way your 36 is turning out! Looks like it’s in good hands. I do dig the overlay skirts, however I must say, Lincoln nailed it with their flush mounts in 36!

 

Ok, so Chris is done with the passenger side fender skirt. I’ve been trying really hard not to give into current trends, aggressive chop, flush mount skirts where the fender is cut to make a bigger skirt, airbags, SBC etc.
I’m trying to stay true and build an old school Custom. Anyways, I’m a little behind, but don’t want to overwhelm yall.

Also he doubled the locking handles to make sure the skirts never fall off.

Chris is currently making a YouTube video on “how-to” make these skirts.

 

Just as I was thinking. I’d like to make it as traditional as I can.

 

I really never paid attention to the skirts, everyone always made their own when it came to Zephyr Customs. Then again I have a lot to learn,

 

Agreed on the skirts. I am fixing to start on a traditional kustom 40 Merc coupe and had the same thoughts on cutting the fenders.

 

Alex, '39 LaSalle grills are one piece, '40s are two piece. Other than that, good job.

I need to find some pictures of the grill, I totally believe you, I know someone made this because its such a rough casting. It didn't have any mounting holes, the bars need to be cleaned up due to how rough of a casting it is.
The price was too cheap to pass up
