  1. I flew helicopters for the sheriff's department. My buddies on the ground always claimed I wasn't a real cop because all I did was "drive" a helicopter around the sky!

Before I found the ham Mr48Chev was and still is one of my email addresses. I Could have put
Rob Davison just as well But first read before I joined showed screen names rather than actual names and that made the decision.

I hammer, roll, shrink, stretch, shape, form and beat on 18 gauge sheet metal until it starts to look like the shape I'm after. And when it doesn't.......I throw it in the corner of the shop into the large pile of TwistedMetal.

RAT STER.... back in 1998 my late wife would call our roadster RATSTER it was back before we knew rat rods suck. so, in honor of my late wife who passed in 2001 of breast cancer at the age of 38... I use RATSTER, it also turned into my art name. most people think it cuz of RAT FINK but yeah,

In 1994, with the threat of lay-offs looming at work, I rented a building in Redondo Beach and moved my side business, building custom headers and doing chassis work, into a real shop. I called it; Beach City Performance, a nod to the location and to the Beach City Chevrolet Corvette funny car, one of my all-time favorites.
It took off quickly since I did jobs that other shops turned away and since I had a “day” job in aerospace, I charged less. I was a regular attendee at our local Ruby’s cruise night with my roadster or Stude pu where one of my customers introduced me to his buddy as “Beach City Bob” and it stuck. When asked for a screen name, I just abbreviated it to “bchctybob”. Or as Lloyd says, bitchy bob. LOL.
    The last T-shirt….

I wasn't planning on signing up 20 years ago due to the number of rude obnoxious posts here. one day there was a question about 49-52 Chevrolets nobody seemed to have an answer for so I came up with 49ratfink real quick without giving it much thought since I have had a 49 Chevrolet since 1976 and like Ed Roth. every car I have owned both drivers and old stuff has had a Ratfink sticker on the back window even today.

my office is full of 1949 Chevrolet items, dealer posters, banners, promo cars, all kinds of different pamphlets.. I bet I have 200 items in my 49 Chevy display cabinet.

For better or worse, my real name is Raaf.

My grandmother named me - she wanted me to have a nice Swedish name. She drank a lot. It's not a Swedish name. It's the Dutch word for Raven.

  15. She related to my mom? Mom insisted all of us kids have proper Irish names with as recent as our family came from there. Did fine with my name (Ryan) and my brothers (Donovan). Somehow missed the mark on my oldest sister by naming her Christina lol. While she did drink a lot I don't think she was drunk when she named us lol

The first car forum I joined back in 1999, someone already had the name Drake taken. So I figured ‘67 was the year of the Chevy I owned so…..
I’ve been 67drake on every forum since.
The OT Chevy is long gone after “I saw the light” , and gravitated towards older vehicles for the most part.

  17. Osage orange, also known around here as hedge tree, is durable, unbreakable and a bit prickly. It makes the best fence posts, lasting well over 100 years, and also burns hotter than any other wood in the region in a wood stove so it provides long-lasting warmth and comfort. I plan to use osage orange planks in the bed of my truck when I finally get to that stage. When it came time to pick a H.A.M.B. handle, it's what I felt best represented me.

When my youngest son was little he nicknamed my modified brownie and when I started building the 32 it had some surface rust so he nicknamed it rusty. I was going to to do a small block Chevy and paint it Oldsmobile green and put old valve covers on it. So rusty rocket was what I came up with.

I spent a considerable period of time in a wheelchair after wiping out a vehicle at high speed on a dry lakebed, were I successfully temporarily installed a few dozen extra joints in my limbs.

Having to learn how to walk again was an interesting experience.

  27. Being stuck in a wheelchair is one of my biggest fears. I myself had to learn to write multiple times when I was a kid due to a disease I had (supposedly rare ....sydenhams Korea). I can only imagine how rough it's been to have to learn to walk again. Though hearing stories like yours of working your way out of your chair does help to soften my own paranoia

  28. You guys are thinking? I personally wouldn't wanna try to. It sounds painful....

  30. I thought about thinking once. Resulted in me nearly being a star of a shotgun wedding (no baby involved lol). She was built like a pinup but nuttier than a squirrel turd ....in a bad way. Haven't thought since lol. That was twenty years ago roflmao
