I remember some 40-50 years ago using a spray on rinse off rust/ metal cleaner that worked....metal would look new....forgot what it was though... is it the same stuff used to clean aluminum??? anyway, figured there has to be something out that actually works like the sales videos.....

this 58 has the whole roof rusted.... I wanna wash the rust off, shit brick it and paint it..not gonna use any sanders or grinders or sand blasters of any sort, I'll just shit brick it so it stays smooth and only removes the rust,...
as always, thanks for any and all replies... I'm gonna shit brick the whole car, and my bet is there's rust on top of the fenders under the primer... IMG_3547[9100].jpg IMG_3548[9101].jpg

real super clean will work. spray it on let it sit for about an hour. If it dries, reapply and get after it with a pressure washer... Purple power and the other copy cats will not do it though....And Navel Jelly is what you are probably thinking of from years ago. And it is not like it used to be....

Ok, I've just done a HAMB search on the term "shit brick" and it looks like you are the only person to have used it.
I don't know a lot about body work so this might be a stupid question, but what the hell is "shit bricking"???
It seems like it might be something not to do. Sounds rough.........
If someone said they were going to shit brick my car, I think I would be shitting bricks.:D

Does "Shit Bricking" involve painting it Porta-Potty color?
Or possibly substituting Kitty litter for Metal Flake?
Enquiring minds are afraid to know...

Stink block. Terrible smelling porous block used for hand blocking. I haven't seen one used since the early 90's when I started doing body and paint.

Sounds like a great term for a Bondo Queen or spray polyester job ? ? ?

Are you thinking about the phosphoric acid based concrete cleaners ? You used to be able to buy at hardware stores. At least in my area, I'm pretty sure they've pulled them.

Ospho will change surface rust to iron phosphate. If it is heavy rust will require sanding then Ospho. Ospho is available from local Ace Hardware or on line through Amazon

It is like when my wife answered the phone one day, and a fellow asked for me,
claiming that I had bought his car.
At the time I had four in a two car bit of a driveway, and one on the street.

Can’t speak to shit brick, but Metal conditioner works well, just need to be very cautious to rinse off thoroughly and quickly, otherwise it can cause adhesion issues later. I also not sure what effect it has on painted surfaces, so I’ll double down on the clean it well and clean it fast!

I’ve even used basic kitchen “iron out” on soda machines and such. Works within seconds!

correct, used to get it autobody paint suppliers, also correct I used it in the 90 as I painted a lot of black and red cars.... that had to be flawless, or do over... they used to sell it 2' x 2' x 3'' thick.. then you cut it to the size you need.. great for 30's and 40's cars to clean up all the reviles and funny shapes, I also hand block with it to find damage caused by power sanders when I strip a car as it will only attack the paint and not grind the metal away,... I also used featherfill , another thing you don't hear much about with the new high fill primers out now

and it smells like beer egg farts so it was call shit brick... but was made for restaurant use to clean grills cause it cleaned every thing off without damaging the metal...

Grill bricks. Yes, they really stink!

Maybe try a restaurant supply place?

Do you wonder why all the body shops don't do what you think you want to do?

Probably a lot less hassle to get one of those body conditioning tools and a few different wheels and just take your time so you don't warp any panels. Ain't what you want to hear, but I think you will spend a fair amount of money on chemicals and not get the result you want.

You can get cheaper ones but I like how this one is shaped and its well made. You can get the wheels at Harbor Freight and Amazon cheaper than Eastwood and they fit OK.........not perfect but just a little larger. :)

I just used rust mort on a tail gate, my daughters truck she and I are restoring. The 40 year old truck had one coat of factory applied black paint and it was so thin it did nothing to stop the rust sadly. A few coats of the mort and it looks pretty good. Don't get it on your garage floor.

  29. I would say what ever you try make sure not to get it on your glass or trim pieces as it might etch stuff, I think Evaporust is the only one safe for that.
