Hot Rods Pete Eastwood's '32 3 window.

Hi All!

I came across a few photos of Pete's '32 3-window from back in the day. I've always admired it. I know the car was Disassembled in 1979-ish according the TRJ#17. Just curious if anyone can share any other photos or details about it... @Pete Eastwood

My understanding Quite a partier ,
First pic after one of those incident after repairs ,
Some one will verify if true ,

 

The chassis is under Robert Williams, 32 roadster now. Maybe pete will chime in.

 

I feel like I read an article about this car and where all the parts went post it coming apart but I can’t recall if it was online, maybe Ganahls blog? Or if it was in print hopup/ roadsters journal.

 

That picture is from The Rodders Journal. The chassis was sold to Robert Williams for his '32 roadster. The coupe wasn't wrecked just got took apart for a rebuild that never happened. Lots of old party guys on here.

 

I think the car at one point had run into a curb pretty hard and bent some stuff up. That may be what he’s referencing. I say we just wait for Pete to pop in.

 

This ‘32 and the man, are legendary to me. It is one of a few that started my affinity for’32 three windows. I would love to hear the origins and exploits of it from Pete himself.

When anyone talks about "timeless" style in an early Ford hotrod, that car would be a perfect example.

 

Part 1
My coupe's story actually starts with a roadster.
1969, I was just out of high school, going to community college & working part time.
My buddy Steve Huntzinger got drafted. He had a model A roadster he was building.
I got his roadster, worked on it some & got it road worthy.
Then I took it apart & finished it and drove it as my only car the end of '69 & most of 1970.
About August of '70 a guy stops me on the street and asks if my roadster is for sale.
I told him no, then he asked if I would possibly do some trading.
Turns out he had a basket case '32 3 window.
Thinking about possibly going thru another winter driving a roadster, I thought I'd better go check out the coupe.
Coupe looked good, so a deal was struck. The coupe in pieces, a 327 engine, and $600 for the roadster.
The Roadster

 

Part 2
The Coupe, September 1970.
I picked up the coupe in pieces, took it home and hung it together to see what I had.
So now I have no running car, so I gotta' put this thing together quick.
It had a dropped axle & hairpins! So I was good there.
Bought a turbo 400 to put behind the 30,000 mile 327 that came with the car.
A '57 Chevy rear end and an F-100 steering & I was all set.
Now at this point I didn't electric weld, but I was good at gas welding.
Blair's Speed Shop bent up the tube crossmembers I designed.
I hack sawed & cutting torched out all the pieces, ground them smooth and tacked them with the torch. My buddy Tom Vandenberg had a Lincoln "red box" arc welder, and knew how to arc weld.
He brought over his welder and we hooked it into the 220 outlet my dad ran air compressor on.
Now we were in business, Tom did all the final welding
Up front everything was pretty straight forward. In the rear I fabbed a 4 link, & built cups off the back of the rear end to mount Corvair coil springs. A panhard bar finished up the rear.
I was turning 19 the end of November, and I wanted it running before my birthday.
8 1/2 weeks and I had it on the road, remember I was going to school & working part time too!
Oh to be 18 again.
To be honest, it was still sporting the old primer & the original Mohair seat.
The completed picture was it's first rod run, the February 1971 Early Times "Mid Winter Rod Run" at the Plam Springs aerial tramway.
I'll work on part # 3, some of the cars adventures
