Steiger's and Forbes & Wallace were downtown Springfield's two upscale department stores, I used to like riding the escalators when my Mom & her Sisters were shopping. Downtown Springfield was a great place back then. Thanks.
World’s Famous Arby’s Roast Beef Sandwich Restaurant/Fast Food Store Front started in 1964 in the Midwest, then within several years, spread all over the USA including So Cal. Hello, The unusual arched building attracted plenty of folks due to the unusual structure in a line of square fast food outlets all over So Cal. Plus, the giant significant hat used in all advertising on menus and outdoor lit ups signs. There was one in Huntington Beach back in 1969 and it was a short hop to stop there for a bag of food and then drive to the local drive-in movies close by. On Friday’s and Saturday nights, there was always a packed house between 5-6pm. The different architectural style was an eye catching structure and was part of the lure. Jnaki The dinner was similar to the original famous Phillipe’s restaurant in Los Angeles. A substitute for not being able to drive to the L.A. Union Station area to get a real roast beef sandwich. Arby’s was an somewhat acceptable substitute. YRMV Note: It was on a very busy OC highway leading from the inland areas all the way to the beach near the Huntington Beach pier. So, it was a main thoroughfare. If a Saturday morning/afternoon hot rod cruise was going to happen, it was Saturday and possibly Sunday. That was the time we saw hot rods back then. The Huntington Beach restaurant location is going through some remodeling phases. It may be torn down to put in an updated square box building with a possible drive-through lane. AWWW!
