I built my 28A ,when in Jr High, got running by 1959. Still looks like when I was in Sr High School, except the header are now chrome,vs BBQ Black. Liked it then n still do.
Even drive same hotrod back to Sr High Schooll " Miami Sr High School" every few years for "Home Coming Day " Miami high home coming prade.jpg
My #2 car was a 1950 Henry J,that I cut up into a full custom in 1960,but some lowlife stole my "J" in 64,never found.

Sold my first car 3 hours after I bought it.
No cell phones in 1974 or it would have been faster.

Nope, sold it when I was 17. I tried to buy it back when I was about 22 and had a good job. But, it left town and I have never seen it again.

Yes, sort of. Bought a 57 Bel Air hardtop at 15. Young and stupid. It had been hit hard in the rear at some point, which I only found out after it was too late. However, it did have a .030 over 283 and a T-10. Bought a 56 Delray and transplanted the drivetrain into it (I still have the 283). Sold the rest of the 57 to two brothers I knew. They kept the front clip and some small parts, junking the rest. Fast forward, 40 years and I managed to talk the brothers out of a 57 210 Handyman wagon that they had been collecting parts for. I received all the parts that they accumulated for it which included my original front clip and 63 Impala bucket seats that had been in my original 57. So, I have 30% of my first car. However, I still have my second automotive purchase. A O.T. Chevelle, which I am the second owner, and my son will be the third.

Yes. A 40 Ford tudor, it was my 15th birthday present. I’ve had it over 42 years now.

Also have my second car, a 67 Chevelle. While everyone else was jacking cars up in high school, I lowered this one.

I am lucky enough to have the first custom/hot rod I had ever known. I think the photo was taken around '73 - I'm the small head inside the car. The old girl has been waiting very patiently for me to get the time/money to finish up the restoration that my dad began in 1993. Looking forward to day it's back on the road! My first car in 1971 was a 67 Mercury Marauder, I was 16, cars been gone since my senior year in 1973, but I still have the scars from broiling a new set of Formula 1 L60s and power sliding it into a street lite. I was the burnout king right up until impact! Built hundreds of faster cars and bikes over the years but she was the only one i ever wrecked! lol

Yep, I still have my first car... Since 1983...
And I've only driven it once... while being towed to a new storage location in early 1984!
(It still looks like it is in the picture - tires and all... Bummer.)

I do. I got this '51 F-1 for my 14th birthday in 1996. My grandfather and I spent the next 3 years rebuilding it, using Dad's bankroll.

    From 2006:

It is currently tore apart and I am correcting many of the errors and sins from my youth. However, I got the frame painted late this summer and I am in the process of reassembly.

  21. Yes. 1964 Pontiac Catalina I got a couple weeks after graduating high school. I was the third owner...originally bought by a lady in Bellflower, CA and owned by her until her passing in about '82. Of course, I started working on it right away, but work stopped when I started dental school in the late 80's. During that time I got broadsided (not my fault) and sadly, a resulting poor repair with a very rusty 1/4 and lots of bondo by a shop in Memphis. But, it had to do for the time. Week after I finished residency, I was rear ended. This time I took all the insurance money and bought a rust free rear section out of AZ intending to fix it right. Time wizzed by and it still sits, but a friend of mine put the new parts on for me a few years ago and hopefully I will get around to getting it finished one of these days now that retirement is approaching....along with the Merc and my '56 F100 and my..... LOL

Small world. I lived in Covington, IN when I was a kid because my dad worked at the GM foundry in Danville.

Thankfully no! The 1st car with my name on the title was a off topic Buick, in one year it had 3 motors in it, I replaced 2 sets of rear wheel bearings, 6 new tires (2 blew the sidewall out), and the transmission was slipping. As soon as I made that last payment, that car was gone. It was the last GM car that belonged to me that I actually drove.

I'm sure none of that had anything to do with the teenage guy driving it.... But in all fairness, the Plymouth that replaced it was driven the same way and went 7 years with only a trans rebuild about 1/2 way through those hard driven years.

Sadly, 106 cars later, it is long gone. Being car crazy since birth. My biggest desire was to own my own car. I asked my father, when I was 14, if I could have my own car. His reply was, "you can have your own car a soon as you have the money to buy one!". Well, about a month later I come up with $80. I had been doing odd jobs and even babysitting to save up the money. So, a bit surprised but seeing his word, off we go. Looking for a car. We ended up at 32nd and Main in San Diego right acrodd the street from the Navy base at a combination used car lot and junk yard known as Beseler Motors. Where low grade sailors got their pocket picked and became the semi-proud owner of a VERY used car! I picked out a non-running 48 Ford coupefor the tidy sum of $75. It didn't run and got delivered on the hook but she was mine all mine. Two years later it ran and I got to drive it. Too bad that I was too much in love with cars to keep it because I traded it three times for another carat the behest of B either my parents or the other kid's parents. Each time someone's parents felt their child got the worst of the deal. It finally went to someone desperate for a car that began an odyssey of 62 years and 106 vehicles! As a teenager, I bought and sold so many cars in one year that I got a nastygram from the California DMV telling me that if I sold one more car in that year, I would be considered a dealer and have to get a dealers license and bonding. Seven cars was the limit for a private party for selling cars in a year. Today, at 77, life is much different. I have a measly 5 cars and one has been my family since April 4th, 1968. My daily driver truck died after 20 years and 377 thousand miles, so I replaced it with vehicle number 106. Two weeks ago. There are a few that I wish I hadn't got rid of, but mostly it has been quite the automotive adventure! Drive 'em if you got 'em!

Kinda, learned to drive about 8 or so in this 47. Drove it for 10 years, then drove it just once in a while, then not at all. It was purchased new by my dad with his WW2 money so it was he that owned it. When he got a newer car it kinda became mine. After he passed it became mine officially, never thought about selling it. Don't know what to do with it but, don't want to sell it either. flatbed back (2).JPG

I think it's so neat that some of you guys do still have your first car. The world changes too much. It's nice to have at least one thing from your young life.

Me? Heck no. I didn't like that stupid 4dr Mercury Montclair with the "breezeway" window back then and I still don't. LOL

I got this 55 in 1972, my first car. Still have it, with the original 6, and powerglide. 67,000 miles on it now. I still have my first wife, also. The 55 was built one week before she was born. dp.jpg
