Customs What seats are you guys using

Good Evening. I have a 56 4dr hardtop Merc Sled Chopped..Trying to find out what seats are people using..I have 2 low back bucket seats for the front. I was thinking about putting 4 low back buckets in it..What you guys think

 

I’d throw the original bench seat back in…..more practical when the girlies are involved.

 

What’s a bucket seat

 

In my 49 chopped Buick I chopped the stock seat frame as low as I could.

 

I have some seats that came in the car...I don't know if they are OEM and the front bench seats doesn't have the track and the back seats are questionable..I will post a picture tomorrow

 

What do we think?
I think it's most important what you think.
Are four bucket seats awesome in your opinion? Or is it the only thing you could come up with (groovy as it might be) to deal with the fact that you don't have the right seats for the car?
If you'd actually be happiest with original seats, maybe make the effort to find them.

If you have a 56 4dr hard top Mercury it’s a Phaeton and you should call it that… to me with their dropped door tops they one of the best looking of the era.
If you’re going to customize it I would be looking at 4 swivel buckets from the 60-70’s…..

Reupholster using the original design, just modern materials. I really like the fold-down armrest. It's late enough in automotive development to know how to make the seating comfortable. Heck, tuck and button was quite comfortable in brass-era cars, so I think for the time and available materials, the upholstery designers were far ahead of the engine and brake designers. Bucket seats seem too modern for your era. Also, always, make sure what you put back in there can accommodate your 21st Century body, now and in the future. Speaking from experience. I'm 6'1" thereabouts and have a '29AA truck cab. I'm keeping the stock seat springs with new upholstery materials, replacing the stock spring back with thinner foam on a board and adding my own designed and fabricated tilt steering column. I may be scrawny but my son, who will inherit this truck someday, is about 6'3" and over 300 lbs, so when I'm dust, he'll be able to get into it.

 

You are building a custom, right? What others would do doesn't matter!
I would reupholster what you have (or what you like) so they fit into the image you want to project. Finding bench seats that actually fit in the car these days is pretty tough, wider seats may be able to be cut down, but then making them look right is another challenge.
Speedway sells adjustable seat tracks, and a couple pieces of angle iron bolted or welded together will mount pretty much any seat into any car you want it in. The swivel seat base for boats can be modified to attach to most bucket seats and fit into any car (and be adjustable with the Speedway seat tracks).

 

I've used its cousin, the milk crate.

 

Stock of Yellow Pages I did once. Real fun going around corners.

 

Hit the gas too much and all of a sudden the brake pedal is a real long way away..........
