Ground strap from the plug?

 

It's pretty big and I assume very solid to do that damage. I think it would have spit a ground strap out. I'm pretty sure the offending item went down the carb

 

Looks like one of my blood pressure pills (capsules)....they're brutal

What does the head look like?

 

It's a big chunk of iron with springs and valves in it, but that's not important right now

 

Discharge nozzle screw, edelbrock squirter check valve, hmm...

 

The head had some damage , it was welded and surfaced. the piston was the weak spot.

 

Thought the head might have some different tell-tale signs of what the hell it could have been. Wierd as hell, that's for sure!

 

A forging never starts out looking like the finished product.
Not talking about forging a piston but after a lot of hammering I don't think that piece started out quite the same shape.

 

Helping my Bro get caught up on some bodywork on a couple 60s cars before winter hits. Looking like it will be a bunch of mechanical work this winter.

 

Killed a few birds with one stone today. My machinist said the heads were ready for my ‘63’s engine. I decided to have him go over the block for tanking and honing and polish the crank. So I did a pickup/ drop off. He lives on the other side of the state from me, so I also went to one of my son’s house in the area and traded a OT rear end for one of his welders.
Lots of driving, but worth it.

 

Got some paint on the stepped arms for the Chevy. No show pieces but will work fine under the car for my tastes.

 

Been working on the Tempest, didn't take any picture's but did some modifications to fit a 19x 26 double pass radiator. I ordered a pair of quality flat head engine mounts because they are very similar to the factory unavailable tempest mounts and they are through bolted. Also got a set of Hedman hustler 1 7/8" A body round port headers that look like they will fit pretty well. Tomorrow I am going to fab up an upper radiator bracket using a set of dimple dies ...we'll see how that goes

With lowered springs. I am currently suffering from excess positive camber.

The camber adjustment is at the end of the upper arm on 49-54 chevy front ends, so by raising the lower arm mounting it subsequently adds negative camber by increasing the angle of the upper arm.

At least that's how it works in my mind, I'm sure someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong

Whether the car will be too low now, with the lowered springs remains to be seen but I can easily get a fresh set of springs and cut to suit

 

Thanks for the answer Clydesdale. Can you not adjust your positive camber out on the eccentric top pin.

 

It is maxed out for negative camber right now

 

Frame needed tweaked. . one step forward two steps back, needed to be done. . fixed, now onto the front cross member.

 

Almost two weeks of on/off struggling and I’ve managed to replace the lower driver’s side ball joint on the Merc, I just couldn’t get it split from the upright.

 

Was the chisel involved? Gnarly!!!!

 

Just to get the rivets out, which I’m sure are twice as hard as Chevy ones!!!

My Son had put a dime size dent in the door with his Nova. It’s currently is on go-jack’s and he leaned against his car when it rolled into the 56. So he took it in for a little paintless dent removal.

 

So are those about to ship or does the car need to come there?

 

I have to cut the windshield in the morning and he'll pick them up tmrw afternoon.
