After driving to Oklahoma for Gathering at the Roc in my 30 coupe I'm thinking of changing my seat in my coupe. I have a mini van seat in it now, butt and bad back were hurting, thinking maybe a original seat would be better. The minivan seat is not real deep so I'm thinking I may need a deeper seat for support.
1) Consider rotating your current minivan seat back, so you're reclined more and your weight is supported by your thighs & back, and less weight is on your butt. 2) take some angle and length measurements of your daily driver and try to mimic those ergonomics in your coupe.
HHmmmm.... I've got the/a mini van seat........ BUT, when I set it up, I used the angles from my daily driver..... I sit in that thing for hours on end, and just replicated it..... Lower back, bottom of knee joint, and ass fitment. Maybe just an adjustment is needed.......?
I'm using '85 Fiero seats which are very comfortable, but I wouldn't claim them as traditional Not posting photos here.
Scoop, looks to me like you need more angle on the seat bottom (u p in front). This is mine, put the wood piece on the seat so that it's easier to see the angle. Alf is Always on guard. Hope this helps, Carp.
You can get the blue high density foam from Joann’s and stores like that. I echo the higher thigh/ knee position. last year for the roc we finished the interior on the 46 and I couldn’t believe how much better the ergonomics were with the nearly 4” higher seat surface. Even the gas pedal that all 46-8 guys complain about worked flawless for the entire trip with my knees up higher etc. for a test of the angles I see a lot of people use couch pillows or rolled up beach towels to test it out.
My ankles are screwed up from 8 years of racing motocross. Gas pedal ankle gets real sore,so maybe that will that help too.
Yeah you’ll be surprised at the different butt and knee heights completely changing the hip /knee/ ankle angles
I know we're not to mention Mustang II suspension, but their seats keep me off the ground inside my 28 Sedan.
So I had a minivan middle seat in my 31 coupe and I couldn’t get it comfortable no matter what angle I put it at. I found that seats from a mini cooper will fit in an A coupe. I had to make a frame for them to mount to cause they are a little to wide for the floor. Very comfy
Why not find a modern car with power adjustable steering wheel and driver's seat and position things where you like them and then copy the measurements for your car?
I guess if we're posting later model seats, I will post mine-they're 40 years old,so antique. i recovered them in leather myself with a very complete kit.
The original Model A seat frame is a choice that's tough to beat for both comfort and looks. Plus you won't be ashamed to post a pic of it here on the HAMB...here's mine.
Looks great!. Not much lateral support like buckets if you need that. Might I ask if you considered a brown carpet?
