Gotta love Montana behind the wheel of a '49 Merc or a '60 Coupe Deville....

  2. The Wife and I took the 57 for a little trip yesterday to get a giant tenderloin sammich ( it's an Indiana thing). It was worth the hour drive! We took a spin around a nice lake community. The weather was perfect. I'm sure that'll be the last drive like that this year.

  4. Geoff, how many cars went on the run?

  5. Not sure to be honest. There were lots of cars not registered for the show that did the run. If I had to make a guess, I would say maybe 600ish?

Took a chilly, but scenic, ride to Bar Harbor this morning (39deg!) but the cold didn't keep this hornet down, it drilled me right between the eyes at about 60mph! 20241015_122559.jpg original_2ccf8695-6c48-4c81-82cf-734f0b65369e_20241015_124311.jpg

Reminds me of a Junebug hitting me on my upper lip on a BSA at about 75 mph in the early 70s. Ouch!

The Mineola Hill on I-70 in east central Missouri. I can't give a reference but I believe that this is the steepest hill on I-70 which runs from central Utah to near Baltimore.

  11. With all due respect, atch, maybe steepest EAST of the Rockies. The grade , both side of the Eisenhower tunnel, is the steepest. I think.

My wife has intimate knowledge of the shiny rear bumper of her old 62 Corvair Coupe. So, if and when she happens to spot what looks like a Corvair ahead of us or parked somewhere along a street, her eyes pop open. Instant recognition from those early college days and when we met. Plus, what other car has those distinct 4 eyes pointing back at the following car(s)?

    Hello,

My wife is getting better at action photos. The video of movement is getting there, but not accessible to quick sight of the target and pushing the little red button for the video filming on my digital camera or her Iphone. On her phone, it is open, find the camera app, open, center the object, move the icon to the video tab, and take the photo . Not, as fast as with a digital camera already set as one pushed the “on” button. Point and shoot… as simple as that.

But, it is getting better. The more hot rods and old cars she identifies, the better she gets at taking the photos. I can concentrate on driving… as she points out. my method with my digital camera is simple. I used the steering wheel as a sturdy base, going straight, for jitter-free photos or videos. Her thing is… I drive and she becomes the photographer. Ha!

For her, a 62 Corvair hits home, back to the senior year of high school summer time. When we got married, the 62 Corvair became a couple’s daily driver… with her taking the 65 El Camino to errands and visiting shopping centers. The Corvair became my next best friend…
upload_2024-10-23_2-42-15.png a closer look at another Corvair to show details up close... Look at that shiny rear bumper... that was one thing my wife's rear bumper was, sometimes hidden, but when cleaned, washed and waxed, it was brand new and shiny.

The color of the stop action photo going down the street, is not the stock color.
upload_2024-10-23_2-45-3.png But, the yellow plate is very distinct...
It is too bad he/she in the 62 Corvair Station Wagon made the stop light and we got stopped. Or, next time, I will show my wife the telephoto lens attachment button on the digital camera or Iphone. YRMV

Western PA fall, going into hibernation and project mode soon after battling brake issues most of this year, will elaborate on that this winter. Big thanks to the forum for useful posts and replies to my chaos:
