Market Street and 3rd Street Downtown San Francisco Hello, This corner has changed since the old photo was taken, but the times we spent going through this interchange since 1966 has always stuck in our minds. We liked staying in the small boutique hotel called the Cornell Hotel de France. It is about 4 city blocks away socked into the narrow streets in this business district. We liked the place because there was locked/secure parking across the street and the hotel was intimate, not like the huge resort hotels in San Francisco. The Cornell Hotel De France, San Francisco. It was very clean and very quiet. The neighboring buildings were not a problem as far as a good night sleep in a busy downtown location. The food inside the restaurant area was outstanding. Quiet, small and the aroma of the cooking food permeated the whole area inside. In the morning, we walked just down to the corner to Powell Street to hop on a trolley for a fast ride to Fisherman’s Wharf and the outdoor restaurants located there. Jnaki Sometimes, when my wife was getting ready for the day’s activities, my job was to go out to get some coffee and snacks prior to going downstairs for breakfast. Fast metabolism and being 20 somethings had something to do with hunger. So, I would walk around the neighborhood with eyes wide open. A couple of times, I hopped on a trolley for a ride down to the shoreline piers. Luckily, I found a nice coffee shop near out hotel and did not have to do a double arm wrap around the trolley grips when blasting across, down, up and around traffic, back to our location. YRMV
