For the new Deuce Hot Rod project I'm going to use a Ford 9 inch rear. My plan is to replace the Ford original chuck with an aluminum version. What I want is a 3:50 ratio with possie prefer 31 spline and a steel yoke for the U joint ready to run. Wondering what others are using. Ronnieroadster
How much power in front and are you going to race? The aluminum 9" if you can afford the $$ otherwise a standard or "N" iron housing will be fine. Not sure heat and tolerance change is an issue [I doubt it] in long term use with alum.. Big pinion retainer. 31 spline big brg axles [not stock shortened] made to length by Strange, Summers or of name brand will be enough. Traction lock will work well, Eaton Tru track better. I have new housing pieces for u-fab and big brakes if interested and arbor for loan for alining. SSC front disc for earl Ford spindles, f/c bolt pattern.
Weight difference, not much. I would guess around ten lbs, more or less, as you add material in strategic places to increase strength, add thru bolts bigger bolts etc..
Maybe to Extreme !! But seriously, if you do not have axles or 3rd , A 9 with 28 spline under 3,000 would be fine, Another option , I was running a s10 from salvage yard with possie Gm parts with a 408 & 427 cid with torque over 600 on 3:43 gear 29 tall tire , with enough wheel speed to run @ & over 100 in 1/8th close to 10 years no breakage, Before switching to a 9 to plant tires @ launch
I will 2nd that! I have been beating the snot out of Stubby & their rear has held up! @chevy57dude ....Damn Steve, that just gives me a woodie! Thinking about an overdrive & then I will sh1tcan the 3:90 for a 4:56 or 4:88 & it will definitely be that "Hogshead" God Bless Bill https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...ar-transport-hauling-open-or-enclosed.614419/
