I was looking hard to see if they were .030 stamped. Like aftermarket would have, ala TRW.

That's the plug that usually leaks after the machine shop replaces it with a pipe plug and you forget to check if it's tight before you put the head's on!

How much should I have paid for it? Pulled a main cap and a rod cap, looked great

Refering to the road draft tube boss? I've seen a block at a machine shop that had the un-bored casting boss.

Only 1968 blocks seem to have the blank boss

Lloyd I was just talking about the unmachined boss on the back of the block where the road draft tube would go. My guess is due to the fact it has a cast crank that someone added those pistons in its past. Not a bad thing , I would freshen it and run it. Large journal 327s are pretty rare , 2 years only.

Yeah i knew that's what you guys were talking about. I threw my question in at the wrong time lmao! That's what I'm thinking, honed, tanked, freeze plugs and cam bearings, throw it back together and wait on some heads. And something to put it in lol

  19. That's a nice little 327, one of the local racers has this treefiddy I was thinking about for my 57 pickup

But I do have that 11-1 short block already with a bit more cam in it, decisions ugh

Used to be, engines were a dollar per cubic inch on the used market.
Motorcycles were a buck per cc, that's how we did it.
Lloyd, I thought you had a set of SBC heads for sale. (?)

So is it safe to say GM did not redesign the block for larger main caps as well as removing extra material from the line bore? IMG_3280.jpeg

Not necessarily, they may have changed the cores for the bottom end of the block and done extensive reliability testing before introducing the LJ production block. The revision eliminating the draft tube hole just came later.

And finally. Is that the block that created the “mythical” 350 with road draft tube? upload_2024-10-28_8-18-31.gif

Given my fondness of big blocks, I sure wish I was closer. Big blocks are one of those things you just can't have enough of. When you were considering it, it sounded like a decent engine.

I'm not a big block guy but if it had these M/T rocker covers on it instead of those $%&#@! Moroso covers I could be swayed to go over to the dark side.:p

I have this L79 68 dated engine with a road draft tube opening. Maybe because it is a CE over the counter engine? IMG_1959.jpeg IMG_1958.jpeg IMG_1957.jpeg IMG_1955.jpeg
