Our dad took the whole family to the observatory when we were little kids, around 1953. It was the first time we had ever seen the place. Later on, it was a place to go to see the huge Los Angeles city area from the hill to the ocean and all parts nearby. Impressive to say the least. Hello, On one of our forays into Los Angeles, my wife and I had tickets to go to the Los Angeles Griffith Observatory laser light show. It fit right into our mode of music and the visions we saw were so outstanding, no one wanted to leave. The dome inside gave it a real world circular vision and the sound… well, for one, you have to like Pink Floyd. Two, you have to like Pink Floyd, LOUD. (LASERIUM® ... the world's first on-going laser show debuted at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California on November 19, 1973!) No one’s head was moving as we were all mesmerized at the sight above us. The audience members relax in comfy planetarium chairs and, while music is pumped through the sound system, watch a laser artist perform a laser light show on the ceiling. The laser show consists of images created by laser lights. One after the other, a streaming series of what look like graphics float on the ceiling. Jnaki It was a great time for the 20 somethings that liked loud rock music. But the visuals just added to the show. So, what did we do as young parents? Our son loved music and when we listened to our LP albums and turned up the sound, he came over and sat with us to listen. We thought it was a natural to take him to the Griffith observatory for the sights and “sounds.” He was so excited to be able to go to an almost live light show and he liked rock music, even as a young kid, too. He could not help it as we listened to our music and he may have been in his room or yard, but always stopped to come over to listen to what we were enjoying. The Pink Floyd show was outstanding. But, half way through, we could see his hands covering his ears as he watched the show. Yes, it was loud and the speakers sounded as if they were in the wall behind us as well as in the ceiling. We were totally surrounded. So, he sat in my wife’s lap and she covered his ears with her hands and we were fine. YRMV
