Those spacer blocks were for big flow. The bolt on each side with a wide port and a header tube that matched ended up with no space for the tube and nut or bolt head.
    Still out there.

I gotta say, I'm glad it landed in good hands. It needed not only someone who is aware of history but has the resources and parts to get it going again.

Not to step on your thread Titus, it's an awesome find but to show you all that their still out there. Here's a one family owned '54 Vette that used to run in the Great Northwest area, (all I am giving you") many years ago. Used to run a Buick, not much to look at now but waiting on pics from it's past in racing form. Strang looking hardtop don't you think?

Pretty sure those hardtops were aftermarket, they always looked wonky to me.

    Im blaming it on luck!

ill get some pics tomorrow, its likely a MAS strait tube able for chevy spindles, and has hairpins

Yeah as posted before the spacers are for adapting larger tube headers for heavily ported haeds.

Unfortunately i have not found any info on times it ran

Hmm…I just realized I have a set of power pack heads that have been ported huge that would be cool for this car. I was planning to use them on an engine, but ended up putting different heads on it so I could have accessory holes. They are fresh and ready to bolt on. They have 2.05 and 1.60 valves in them. I’ve never seen power packs ported like these.

That is a cool car and a good story. The things that make it for me is the grin on that kid's face when he was climbing out of the car, and the grin on your face in your driveway.

Amazing find..in my top 5 of body styles. One of the things I always like about them was the minimal body overhang, front & back....very unusual in comparison with what was going on at the time. Yeah, they were dogs, but not yours.

Always hated tail lights on 54s but could ignore that & live with this one. Great find & bring back to life.

Glad it wasn’t bought by someone to “restore”.

  18. Great story ......it was meant to be ...all parties happy and even the car..... if it could talk it would probably give a big wake up stretch and yawn , smile and say "ok lets do this". For me I love the ole gassers and drag cars. This is the greatest hobby . Thanks for the posts and sharing a cool find.

Thanks funny, because I always thought that they made the car, along with the sunken headlights. The tail lights were one of the early "jet age" styling hints of what was to take over the mid to late '50's. Here's a picture of a 53-55 without the tail lights. It just doesn't look right, IMHO.

Yes, they were aftermarket, we called them football helmets. There was an orange '54 that ran at York U.S.30 back in the '60's with one of those hardtops. It was from Baltimore as I recall. They obviously forgot to attach the top one night and it blew off half way down the track. This yellow car seems to have found a good home. have fun with it.

At first sight, seeing the dusty Vette on the trailer:

A Corvette guy: "Be a damn shame if someone bought that and didn't restore it to original".

A HAMBer: "Be a damned shame if someone bought that and restored it (to look like every other 54 Vette) and not leave it as an early Drag survivor".

I'm not into Vette's but early Vette's in Drag or Custom style really do it for me.

It found the right home Titus!

It was just a pic from my picture collection, Mike, so no history on it. Those tail lights were just lick & stick units....no metal work needed.

    s-l1600-3 copy 18.jpg

I wonder what this one would look like without the tail light thing....what a car.

While I'm at it, here's a couple like Jeff's. I wonder where they are now. D109DDF9-CD7A-4400-82CD-5541E6BFF613.jpeg

VERY COOL! I spotted it sitting on the trailer at the GSTA show as well, appearing fresh out of the barn and oozing some sort of yet-to-be-told history. I wish I'd known it was at the Fallout, would have loved to have checked it out closer. I never made it to that side of the track that weekend as we were busy running the "Past Gas" dragster. Hopefully we'll get to see it at GSTA 2025!

Looks it has found a good home and a great caretaker to get it back onto the track . Great job

  28. With only 3600 made in 1954 I could honestly see both sides of that opinion. Rare I can understand a Corvette purist logic. Not saying that if I'd have gotten this car I would have thrown a straight six in it. Honestly I'd have done a more budget friendly equivalent to what Is being done to the car ....only because I couldn't afford to do it this well lol.
