The plus side of this is we'll get to see the process in a high quality video format. Like Chip or not, ya can't bitch about the top notch production value of seeing an old Barris custom being brought back to life.

  2. Did you even know Boyd? I knew him for many years, a good friend of mine. If he would have gotten his hands on this car he would be doing exactly what Chip is doing.

I have been wondering the same thing, maybe a percentage of the hammer price at auction??

  6. I kinda feel like the family was asking a ridiculously low price for it as found. Like maybe a price that too a non car person sounds high for a dirty non running car needing a good bit of work to reach the road. But to someone like us low enough I'd sell a bunch of my snap on tools I'm so proud of to buy it lol. Pretty sure that even if foose gets all the profits from how he increased the value the family will get significantly more due to actually getting close to how it was worth as found

  7. And I'm sure foose is giving them a significant discount on the work. Car is great publicity

  9. It looks like Foose is trying to build his YouTube channel. Maybe that's involved in the deal. David Freiburger also recently started cranking out his own content on his channel. He might be trading labor just to feature it.

My measily model car builds youtube channel with 1200 subscribers made me $100 last year, so it can be lucrative if you have a large following.

  10. Still. Seriously doubt they were getting offered anywhere near its value. I may not be a fan of foose but I'd think he was doing them a significant favor. Both in what they'll get from the finished value and from the resulting marketing.

  11. Since I have zero knowledge of any of the arrangements nor know any of the involved parties all I will say is it’s cool to see the car come back to life!

  14. No but I do remember the comment he made in print on the hot rod revival of the mid 1990’s and the early 2000’s and the 50s era of hot rodding. I also watched the Shifter documentary and saw/heard him talk of the hot rod revival of the mid 1990’s- early 2000’s and how he viewed it as a personal attack on him and his style of cars.

I was not and still am not a fan of this his although I can respect the workmanship.

Not liking something is one thing, but disliking it you think it is a personal attack is a very different matter.

That’s cool that Chip’s Daughter is involved. Got to involve the next generation to keep interest in Kustoms for future generations to enjoy.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Chip at a Steakhouse in Louisville, KY. He had worked the PPG booth tirelessly for 12-14 hours at the NSRA Nationals. Signing autographs, taking to fans, taking pictures, etc. What a stand up guy. He didn’t even get to eat his steak diner, as he continued to sign autographs, tee shirts, hats, every thing that was presented in front of him. At some point you have to sit down and enjoy your meal. Not Chip, he was there for anyone that wanted to talk, have their picture taken. And this was after a full day of the same working in the booth. He’s the most patient man I’ve ever seen. Chip Foose is truly a class act.

I don't know how the heck Craig is going to sell it after driving it.

  27. Foose got a couple of things wrong... He was telling the owners that the plate number shown in the original build pics should appear on the title. That would only be true if the car was purchased and registered in the state for the first time in 1958. At that time, Washington was issuing all-new plates every so many years, and the new-for-'58 plate replaced the previous ones on all vehicles. If the car was registered by the owner in Washington before '58, the title would show the previous series number. Washington doesn't issue 'corrected' titles if the plate changes for any reason until the vehicle changes hands. These days you get new plates when transferring title, no matter if the current plates are good or not. That wasn't true in the past.

And the 'reproduction' plate is wrong also. The '58-62 plate had no year embossed on it, year stickers were used to show current licensing. The '63 plate had a return to embossed year designation, but to allow room for renewal stickers the state abbreviated Washington to 'Wash'. There were complaints, so a redesign came in '65, returning to the full name and stickers became the norm for showing current licensing after that, eventually adding month as well as year.
