I’ve been fortunate enough to not ever have alcohol or drugs control my life. My car habit……not so much.

Congratulations! I quit drinking years before joining the HAMB.

I nearly completely quit drinking about the time I could legally drink (21 here). It wasn't as much of a challenge by then.
I got married at 19 (still with her), she would get sick after 2 alcoholic drinks, that took some of the fun away as well. The last time I drank alcoholic beverages was probably 40 years ago. Smoking took a bit longer, when it hit $1.25 a pack, that was the end for me.
Finances were very tight back then, it didn't take me very long to understand the cost of drinking, and other vices. I had other things I wanted to spend my money on, I was a motivated young man.
Cars were a big part of my life, my real job was working on cars, I had a part time self employed job working on cars, and my hobby was cars.
By the time the HAMB came around for me, I had already opened my welding shop (mostly working on cars, imagine that). I was here under "50dodge4x4" sometime in the very late 1990s.
I turned 68 on my last birthday. This has been a fun and interesting journey.

I gave up the smokes about 35 years ago, mainly for health reasons…no real problems, just didn’t want any future problems.
I started drinking at 14….continued to about 40, quit for 15 years, then started again when I had a major life change.
Still partake several times a week , with friends. It doesn’t control my life……but does influence it! lol

I’ve only been here 8 years or so, but have made some friends! What amazes me is the knowledge that is here! Before I came here…..I thought I was pretty sharpe on things!
    That illusion has been shattered!

Here is me and the local hooligans at our favorite watering hole!

This thread has gone from AAA to AA. But that last picture made me think of a buddy and I sitting at the bar enjoying a pint or four when he looked down the counter at a couple old, grey haired, men and said "that's us in a few years". I told him "you're a moron and that's a mirror!":D

Now, if one of you would kindly build something and post pictures of it, I would drink to that!

I am still a drinker, and have a shelf full of whiskey and bourbon.
But I don't enjoy the drinking lifestyle, and haven't really touched the stuff since 2020.

I had 1 drink this February when an old friend visited me from the USA [I hadn't seen him since 2018]
I have noticed the difference in my lap times at the track even when I only had 1 drink the night before.
Racers like James Hunt are exceptions

This thread is about cars !
What is the end goal of building our cars? ................. To drive them.

Most "civilized" countries prohibit drinking and driving
If you want to "Booze and Cruise" countries like Bolivia, Guatemala, and Grenada are the havens

Both the same car…different iterations. It left when my second daughter came along. Maybe one day I can get it back…

Halloween at Bandit Manor. Candy for the kids, adult stuff for the adults. Some of you would save me money for car parts.

Be careful with a cigar hanging out of your mouth when you have a beard. You can look like Lassie having a shit...

I may have stopped drinking, but I still know good beer…and I don’t see any in that pic @Boneyard51 . My fridge is still full. Haven’t touched any in 34 days now.

I heard a line here along time ago that went something like.
"I once read about the evils of drinking, so I gave up reading".

i think the "worst" thing i did was to move to south st. louis. down here, nobody joins a country club; you just go to the tavern and party every night. i sure had fun, though!

I saw a line on here awhile back. "You gotta do the drugs, don't let the drugs do you !"
Reminded me of a similar quote I heard that served me well in my youth.
"You've gotta learn to ride that buzz, don't let it ride you"... :D

What was the question again ..?
