Technical Lime works horn wire

  1. Instructions sure don’t give a lot of details. Is the nylon bushing supposed to sit inside the shaft ? IMG_8970.jpeg

    Looks like it should and would make sense if it did, and no sense if it didn't!

  4. From the photo, it looks like fitting it into the column would keep it centered.
     
  5. I agree but the nylon bushing is bigger in diameter than the steering shaft. Just don’t want to grind it to fit then find out that it’s not supposed to. Common sense says it should

  7. To me it looks like the bottom, smaller part of the bushing sits in the column and the top part sticks out above.

    Is the step down on the nylon bushing 5/16” by chance? Instruction say to drill an inner shaft 5/16”.

    Do the other 5 pages of instructions that came with the kit tell you anything about the installation. @pprather 's suggestion to call Limeworks seems to be the next step.

  11. IMG_8790.jpeg Problem solved. There must have been a small burr at the steering wheel end of the shaft from manufacturing. I cleaned it up with a file and gently tapped it in. Thanks for all the responses.
    One step closer to getting it to Deuce Days next July in Victoria British Columbia

    I'll admit I was scratching my head with those instructions as I'd no prior understanding of horn push wiring and it was only when I realised the bushing was isolated from the shaft that it made sense!

    Deuce Days in Victoria is a wonderful thing. Done it twice.

  19. It's like a horn contact on a postal jeep.

    The plastic bushing should go into the side the column and the button should be in contact with the bronze bushing on the inner shaft at all times. The white plastic bushing in your picture is to insulate the button so it doesn't contact the outer column. When you hit the horn button it grounds to the inner shaft, through the bronze bushing on the inner shaft to the button in the plastic bushing, through the wire to the relay.

    You drill the inner shaft just to bring the wire from the center of the hollow shaft to the outside of the center shaft and attach it to the bronze bushing.

  21. I re read the whole post I skimmed at the end of my lunch break. You didn't need the whole how it works post I did, you just wanted to know about the bushing under the horn button......sorry.
