Finally got a chance to mock up the steering. Shaft still needs coupling. Seat needs to go down a bit. Not sure if I will get the wheel I made 25 years ago chromed, or run a small Moon or something . It’s too tight to run one of my black superiors.
IMG_2520.jpeg IMG_2521.jpeg Rear suspension is bolted up. Still need to decide on a pan hard or Watts link. Rake is ridiculous! I like it. Need bigger rear tires.

IMG_2522.jpeg Spent the morning welding bits onto some stainless marine hinges so I can start making doors. Kinda need to get them fitted before I start finalizing things. Some of this shit takes forever!

I thought about it. But this body doesn’t have any wood in it.
Evil plan is to build 1/4” mounts to bolt to the back of each hinge. Then weld the works into each door on the bench. Then fit and adjust the doors to fit the body. I think I would be chasing all over trying it any other way.

IMG_2577.jpeg Had to pull out the black model A seat to get the back of the cab finished and welded on. The seat was too high and too thick and was “pissing on my brain”
Happy to have it out and moving the project forward again.
More pics tonight. moving slow this morning, damn Lowenbrau!

Hangover gone! Added more structure under the box, and built the panhard bar. I wanted to lower the box a bit. So the box lines up with the body line. IMG_2578.jpeg

Put the cool Buick taillights my buddy Jeremy gave me on. I think they will fit the bill. Yes I know they are upside down. I think they look better this way. IMG_2584.jpeg

I got started on bead rolling the sides of the cab. It’s more difficult than it looks! Especially with a manual roller. I’m going to had to make a form to do the curve at the edge of the door where it joints the horizontal bead. The roller won’t turn sharp enough. IMG_2586.jpeg

  10. Lots of progress! Really coming together.

IMG_2605.jpeg Logic would dictate running stock rockers on this little motor. But for $80 I couldn’t pass these up. Now I need to find some cheap poly locks and stock 305 pushrods. I could actually assemble this motor and get it running! I never expected that.
Work continues bead rolling, fitting, and tacking the body panels. Lots and lots of welding ahead.

Let me suggest that you face off the tops of those rocker studs. That way the Poly Locks will have a firm surface to "bite" on and be less prone to losing adjustment or loosening up. If they are screw-in studs it should be easy to face them in a valve grinder or equivalent.

    Your build looks great. Kudos

They are just temps. The engine needs to come apart to check clearances and relube everything. It’s rebuilt with new pistons, heads and stuff but it sat under a bench for a decade.

they are just stock press in studs. This is NOT a high performance build. Just a 305 with flat tops and a bit of a cam.

You should be OK if you check the tightness occasionally.

Weld grind, weld grind, weld grind. Several hours worth. One side ready for primer almost! I have to weld up the other side ten ensure the front edge is straight before I tack the front curve of the side panels on. IMG_2616.jpeg

I think ash might work. Birch is hard to work with. I’ve used it before.

I've always found birch to be very machinable . Ash & oak are prone to splitting .

I was told when I made the header for my T top that Ford used ash for their wooden body supports. Not sure how accurate that is, but ash seems like a good idea to me if you're steering clear of oak.
