I didn't like the pedal on the speedway throttle so I made a half scale "Moon" pedal and cast a couple.

Got a little progress on the mini gasser this summer. Had our first snow this weekend so it was time to wrap it up for the winter.

    HAH!
    Hopefully
    indeed.

Somehow I get caught up in these projects that have overly enthusiastic, under performing, bizzare idea'd, lofty goaled, budget ignorant, tightwad owners.

Romance isn't lost, its spent on unwitting project cars.

Owner still hasn't bought tires, but purchased new KNS fender skirts, that are missing hardware and the website now seems to be conveniently down.
    Lovely.

Maintenance/repair history is hacktackular at best.
Owner used to work at an oil changer/lube shop as a kid. Asked him if he had changed the oil yet(over a year since purchase),
Nope, seller said he changed it.
'When should you change the oil?'
Every 3Kmiles or one year, whichever comes first!
That was some Manchurian candidate response if I ever did hear one.

    I could go on.
Didn't mean to turn this into a whinge post, it's cathartic.

I made a column drop before lunch using lost foam. This is a great method for one off parts and while I have been at it for thirty years and have a furnace and crucibles, it could be done with simple tools, a torch and a plumber's ladle.

  19. Teaching my daughter to do bodywork and paint on her car. She actually bought a wreck from Copart that we are fixing. Hope to make the parts white in the next few days.

  21. @guthriesmith - Way to teach, dad! The wife's daily got bumped, brand new car, figures.. Just a little damage, minimal really. When I picked it up, I noticed the scrap area. Big pile of wrinkled sheet metal outside the body shop. The stuff is so thin, shops mostly replace panels instead of working on them.

  22. Yep, this new stuff isn’t easy to work. Easy to bend, but if it’s messed up much, easier to replace. However, I’m cheap and would rather fix. My wife’s car needs a fender and I checked on buying one. It was almost $400 for basically nothing. I knocked the beat up one into shape instead.

She looks like she would be happier going somewhere with her friends in the car than she is working on it…:)

  24. Probably. But, she has a three year old son so doesn’t get to spend time with friends much anymore. :D She is honestly a hard worker and assembles construction equipment for Ditch Witch to support herself and her son. :)

  27. Have a 55 Ford 2 dr post sedan—-original paint, never in an accident—bumpers frt and rear and all stainless trim is original, factory tinted glass. Frame cut off at firewall—entire Lincoln 95 Mark 8 clip inserted into original frame and welded——engine, trans is from same donor car as frt clip/290 h.p 4.6L all aluminum DOHC V8/Lincoln power rack pinion, hydraulic assisted power disc brakes, big sway bar, struts. Car looks like a stock 55 Ford—-has Mustang 17 x 8 wheels on all four corners. Car is decently quick with 55 rear end ratio of 3:31/engine remains stock catalytic converters with 4 ft glass pack mufflers. Looks like a 55 Ford, drives, handles, stops like a 95 mark 8. Gas pedal is from a bass drum. IMG_2553.jpeg IMG_2552.jpeg IMG_2433.jpeg IMG_2395.jpeg IMG_2392.jpeg

    Hello,
Nice work and stylish wood cabinets. @squirrel We had wood cabinets installed 17 years ago. While the construction was going on, we had our 2 year old granddaughter staying with us almost daily. So, the workers tried to keep the noise down during her nap times. But, as I was carrying her while talking to the contractors, she fell asleep during the air compressor rebooting and the nail guns whacking away. Some times being tired overcomes noise... When we took her upstairs, we too, fell asleep. Noise or not... an active little two year old can tire out a couple of retirees in no time!~ ha!

The type of wood had a protective coating on the surface and that helped keep the fingerprints off of the woodwork. Yes, that is what handles are for, but most everyone finds the handles and uses them for the first several months. Then in closing the doors or cabinets one tends to grab the edges of the drawers or doors to close them. So, over time, the wood gets to absorbing the hand/finger grip oils and starts it staining process. the color comes off and then it becomes hard to match the old cabinet surface.

    Jnaki

Your cabinets have that raw wood look that is popular and making a resurgence these days. But, hopefully, they will receive a coat or two of stain to help in the long run of preventing fingerprints and oils from hands over time. It has been 17 years since our cabinets have gone in and we are still doing upkeep on our normal fingerprints and hand oils on the cabinet corners and yes, near the handles.

For us, it is a new counter, matching cooktop backsplash and a tile backsplash near the sink and window. the cabinets still look and act like new and still have the "coastal feel" to the installation from 17 years ago.

Our granddaughter visited us recently and was amazed it brought back all of those memories of growing up with us from 6 months to pre teenage days. It was if she never left our home and grew up going to college. It brought a little happy tear to our eyes... YRMV
