Hi, I wanted to introduce myself and my 4Banger. I'm Harald, Harry is my nickname and I come from Braunschweig, which is in Lower Saxony/Germany. Now I want to build a traditional hotrod that keeps its engine and largely its chassis, it will get a rooftop from Legacy, a front axle from the '32 and will be lowered further using the springs. A Volvo M40 gearbox will also be installed, but we will keep the torque tube. The engine will be rebuilt. I bought a '31 coupe, which was roughly assembled for shipping to Germany. Thank you for the nice welcome, it is my first contact with a Model A. Now the roof structure is in progress and for this I have to dismantle the upper roof frame, the front head section and the sun visor were already missing, the roof frame is being rebuilt in box tube, sheet metal strips have to be welded all around the roof cutout, off we go Paint was also added again Greetings Harald

There was still a hole in the quarter panel, I made a patch, I don't have all the fancy machines, so I hammered the outline onto a piece of steel beam. Greetings Harald
Your car is starting to take shape ,I run a 4 Banger coupe too....................daily driven in Scotland UK I even get waved at from the local police(who probably dont know it should have fenders on it!)Check out The Sacramento Coupe on Youtube.
We removed the body from the frame, now the Model A gearbox could be removed and the Volvo M40 gearbox with truck bell housing could be installed, it fit surprisingly well, all the screws went into their place, the conversion kit contains everything you need for operation. The conversion kit is available here in Germany, a stroke of luck. Now put everything together, shorten the output shaft, insert the bearing and press in the adapter universal joint and put everything together, drill a hole and cut a thread in the shaft and the original screw from the Model A is in its place.
Hi Harry, welcome on board! You ´re doing a nice job on your A. I used to have a 30 coupe with a G28T banger, it was a blast. I wish I had known about the Volvo transmission swap back than.
Hi Baumi, are you still driving your 30? A Model A with a G28T is a great car, my engine is currently at the repair shop and is having bearings installed. From the 1961 model year, the new M 40 gearbox was installed together with the B18 engine in the PV (Buckel) and P120 (Amazon) models. The M41 has a Laycoc overdrive, but the torque tube has to be massively rebuilt for this, or switched to an open drive. The M40 is a fully synchronized 4-speed gearbox. The last gear is the same - 1/1, but the gear ratios in the other gears are more evenly distributed in the M40. Model A: 1. 3.12:1 2. 1.85:1 3. 1:1 M40: 1. 3.13:1 2. 1.99:1 3. 1.359:1 or 1.362:1, 4. 1:1 Greetings Harald
Harry, it was a car I gave to my Dad. He drove it for a few years and somehow lost interest and wanted an RV instead, so the A went to another home and he bought a RV.
Wow, that's a great gift, it's a shame your dad wanted something different, you can't force someone to be happy. You have a nice workshop. Before the Model A, I spent 2.5 years rebuilding a '62 C10. I'm a fan of Ford 4 Bangers, had a 30 pickup with a B motor, Winfield head, Mallory distributor and an Ansen intake with a Holley 94. Used it as a daily driver for years and finally sold it, Just started on a 29 Roadster pickup with a banger in it, Snyder's 5.5 to 1 head, Burns manifold with a Holley 94 and a 50's Mallory dual point with centrifugal advance. Was going to be a quick and dirty build without a complete tear down but got out of hand and just set the engine back in the frame.
A very nice roadster pickup, I like it. My engine is still at the engine repair shop and is having bearing shells installed, there are already a few parts waiting to complete the engine. Greetings Harald
The RP looks better than it was, it was cobbled together and when I started fixing things it ended up as a bare frame. This is the third banger powered Model A I've done, 29 Special coupe stocker, my avatar 28 Special Coupe with a flathead V8, 30 Pickup with the B motor and later an inserted A motor, 30 Sport Coupe with a flathead V8 and the Roadster Pickup. I still have the 29 Coupe, 30 Sport Coupe and the Roadster Pickup, too many cars but sold a couple over the last few years. Guess I stuck on Model A's, really like what you did with the top on your coupe, good job on the patch panel! It's easier to build a Model A over here, lots of parts available and can get them in a couple of days, I see a lot of nice cars built in Europe.
These are beautiful vehicles, so they have a lot of experience. I still have a lot to learn with the Model A, it only exists in my head how it should look when finished. Now the chassis and brakes are to be reconditioned and the 32 axle is to be dismantled and reinstalled in the coupe, that will be exciting. Greetings Harald
Today, something that is a trivial matter for most people, I took off the rear brake drums, what a battle, I won. A knife puller, heat and a hammer were my friends, both sides off and I was able to inspect the brake, well, we're going to completely replace everything, I'll order the front one at the same time, the axle on the left has worn out and ruined the pads too. Tomorrow I plan to remove the spring and pull out the axle, we'll continue.... Greetings Harald
I had saved your conversion together with Marcus's at the time, but it was out of reach because I wanted to keep the torque tube. The 4th conversion you've done now, wow. The racer will be great, with the shortened wheelbase it is of course difficult to keep the torque tube. I'm doing the 1st and I know nothing about hotrods, I'm growing into it and letting myself be inspired by you. Greetings Harald
