after standing overnight loctite 243 did the job.medium strength.saved the 270 for other jobs ARP.crank bolt fitted, torqued to 60ft-lbs, oiled the threads and under washer surfaces.pulley bolts torqued to 40 ft-lbs with a tiny drop of loctite 222 low strength.the crank lock-up tool worked brilliant .all went well.on to the next task

yesterday i was told by a mechanic he might have the correct seal at work.told me today the seal is identical to the old one.hopefully ill have it soon.looked through i pile of gaskets i have.found another timing seal gasket set id had for years.the seal looked very similar.cant measure the old one is away for comparison.have a friend going to texas for a few weeks.he will bring a gasket seal set back in a few weeks.ive 2 unused timing cover gaskets so if the seal is the correct one ill replace it soon as i can and continue with the rebuild.fingers crossed, drama, drama !!

i like having the correct tools.few weeks back i treated myself to a seal puller.it whisked the timing cover seal out today with the cover in place.had a little room to get behind the seal with the balancer off.if the new seal goes in as easy ill be very happy..bought myself a present a 3/8 drive torque wrench.it goes down to 4 ft-lbs and up to 80 ft-lbs.covers a wide range.Sealey brand on offer and at a reasonable price.

got the new seal in.it fought a little.i heated the cover with a heat gun.ran a mini file on the edge of the casing still no go.filed the edge off the back edge of the seal.,no go sanded the rear half of the seal a little and smeared a light touch of permatex black where i sanded.a few light taps with a carpenters hammer it started and drifted it home with a nylon drift made for the job.home sweet home. balancer is back on tomorrows an other day.thanx to mick and steve who helped immensely this week.

clean the inlet didnt happen.ive been looking at a black pulley starting to bubble most days with the rad off..today was do or die for me .i thought i needed a puller to remove it got the puller on the floor and tried removing the nut. eventually got the nut to move and was delighted to see it slid right off there was a keyway on the shaft.sanding with coarse sandpaper to give it a good grip.hopefully in etch primer tonite and a coat of paint tomorrow.

finished off painting the pulley.and mounted it .looking fine if i do say myself..removed the rad from the timber stand with view to sitting it in place.but another do or die moment the heat resistant rad paint is chipped in places .ill have to paint that too.the instructions on the can said no primers needed but they lied ill have to etch prime it this time around.also need to tidy the wiring up around the rad.wiring from one headlight to the other kinda hanging loose .id like to re mount the horns so i can remove the grille and have them stay in situ.thats coming up still no permatex delivery.

after a bottle of red and loads of apple tart it was obvious what i needed to do with the wiring.held that thought and got into it today.very nearly finished, just need to paint a bracket.the top tank on the rad is looking good.so turned the rad upside down in the stand intend painting the bottom tank tomorrow.a fresh wire brush is great for cleaning paint from alloy welds . cut the heads off two rad mounting bolts and screwed them into where the top rad mounting bolts go.plan is to lift the rad onto the bolts to cut down on scratches while mounting.hand painted the rad mounting bracket with POR 15 top coat to keep the weather away.tidied the wiring with small zip ties ,getting there at last.
