They think out of the box how to hide they are the source. I find it a lot in food. Frozen fish sold in paper bags at Walmart you have to unfold the pleats on the side of the bag to reveal its from them.

Mann-Hummel bought WIX several years ago and have been ruining the company in my opinion. Supply chain issues, and quality issues seem to be a problem since they started making filters all over the world.

Kind of makes you wonder how many imitations of products are out there. I bet it’s mind boggling! I think a lot of what you buy online is counterfeit.

Bottom line is if you want to pay $10 for an oil filter you get Chinese, Indian or Mexican product, you dont mind paying $50 then you might get USA made.

    that’s capitalism folks!!!

Been a mixed bag with Wix since they got bought out. I'm sure many already know this, but Napa Gold are made by Wix. Coincidentally, I've never gotten a Napa Gold that wasn't made in the USA. Don't know if there's a reason for that or it's just been luck.

I've moved to Napa Gold as well. Once a month Napa does friends & family prices. Usually around 25% cheaper.

  13. Some here may dis- agree but, I use K&N filters. A little pricy but a damn well made filter in my opinion. I have also used Napa Gold for many years.

I see it at work everyday, my company supports conveyance at an Amazon facility. So many Delco, Gates, etc boxes around and if you read the print something like “assembled in the USA from parts made in China or Mexico”.
Heck, Goodyear bicycle tubes say “made in china” on the box.
So as mentioned, just buy what’s affordable to you, take a chance. what else can you do?

Well…..just bought a Wix XP filter , because the parts house didn’t have a regular Wix filter. Went out and took a look at it…..it is made in Mexico! Better than China, but not much!

Rock Auto gets a portion of their stock from wholesale closeouts. Very possibly thos made in USA filters were old stock.

Nothing wrong with that, but understand Wix hasn’t been owned by Dana for many years now. They’ve been owned by Mann & Hummel since 2016, and Mann & Hummel has 80 plants all over the world, including a half dozen in China.

Seems like Wally World got into trouble for creating a brand of clothing line called " Made in USA". It was most definitely not, so they got spanked. I think there is specific regulatory guidance out there now, that specifically says you can't do this now.

&, sadly, from readings all over, seems Fram is one of the worst...

1st trouble ever in decades I had w/Wix was the last one I bought - blew out 6qts new Mobile1 after oil/filter change. Nice QC on the relief-valve... Didn't look to see where it was made, didn't care. The no-additional-cost-replacement the store gave me worked ok, but I ate the cost of those 6qts Mobile1. Wasn't all that happy...

I recall that in the '50s we were surprised when we found out that Japan had named a town USA.
We had to check for the abbreviation periods.
Today they and Taiwan make good stuff. ;)
Problem, as we have posted so many times B-4, is the corporations wanting a lo-ball number

Decades ago Fram decided that they could make a lot more money by pouring their money into advertising rather than product quality or product development. This goes back at least the early 1980's when Napa filter reps would cut a Fram filter and a Napa filter open and show you the difference.

I'll go with the made in China Wix before risking a Fram. I've always used Mann filters with my BMW but understand that when you have 80 factories around the world you may have some quality control issues. Can't say much about the Made in Mexico thing as my HHR was made in Mexico .

  28. Company A has a well established history of manufacturing a quality product, with a well established customer base.
Company B offers company A an "offer they can't refuse" to buy their company, which is accepted.
Company B now owns a company with a well established customer base because of a well established quality product.
Company B's bean counters look for ways of getting a higher percentage of profits (return on investment), sources out the manufacturing of the product off shore, for a much reduced cost....profits soar, stock holders are happy.
Customers eventually realize the quality isn't "what it used to be", but options are limited, as this seems to be an industry wide business plan.
We as consumers are always looking for a "cheap" price, the companies are obliging.
We, who will "pay up" for quality have fewer and fewer sources to do just that.

I use a Fram once in a blue moon on my daily’s if I don’t have a filter and I happen to be in Walmart when I think about it. Their HM and above filters are actually decent now. I don’t like them still however.

I normally keep a stock of Champ filters for my daily’s from rock auto. $1.50 each and they ‘work’ I also use the Bosch filters which are $3 and a little better. I Put a Mobil 1 on anything I care about
