Hollywood Bowl in the early stages of development.. Hello, My wife + her sister and friends somehow got tickets to the Hollywood Bowl performance of the Beatles. It was not front row seats but almost to the very last rows of the middle section. I asked if she could see anything. She told me that that was besides the point, plus it was so loud with all of the girls screaming. The musicians on stage looked like little stick figures, but it “being there” that was so important. (not like today’s super sized screens placed all over the area for improved viewing… despite the ant figures on stage, the large screen brought the concerts to life. ) August 23, 1964 performance at the Hollywood Bowl. It was a big deal for a zillion people in So Cal. For us, it was, August, the last week prior to having to go back to school after Labor Day and we were in Baja, Mexico for a 10 day surf trip and campout. Talk about two different worlds… each doing their own thing… Jnaki From 1962 on, we were beginning to listen to the new group, Beach Boys out of Los Angeles’s South Bay area. So, we were on our own, “Surfing Surfari,” with ten days of great surf, food and camaraderie. Beatles, well we all know how popular they became. So, for a time in So Cal radio stations, it was the invasion of the British Bands versus the So Cal beach/surfing lifestyle sounds. A cultural phenomenon for sure…YRMV
