I purchased this car from Rice Performance out of Quakertown Pennsylvania. They had started the build for a customer & he backed out after they got started on it. I had it shipped to gasser6.jpg gasser.jpg gasser1.jpg gasser2.jpg gasser3.jpg gasser9.jpg gasser10.jpg Axtell Texas & got to work on it. I received it on Friday August 16th 2024 & got to work on it right away. Rice performance had recessed the firewall for a Big Block Chevy, bent up the roll cage but hadn't welded it, mocked up the suspension & installed the motor mounts. They did a excellent job. Nothing but high quality work from that shop. I welded up the cage & all the suspension components. Had to do a lot of fabricating such as building shock mounts, building hedders, mounting seats, shifter, steering column, brake, clutch & gas pedals, mounting radiator & fabing fan mount, mount fuel cell & make all fuel lines & wire the electrical system, plus a lot more. I built a 427 Big Block Chevy with 11:1 compression, solid roller, Brodix 2 plus heads, Weiand tunnel ram with Holley 6109 750 double pumpers & used a Borg Warner Super T10 with a vintage Hurst Super Shifter. It has 48" ladder bars with a 9" Currie housing with a Strange center & Strange 35 spline axles & Strange dual piston rear brakes. Up front is a Speedway heavy duty straight front axle with GM metric brakes & a Speedway Vega box. I did all the work on it by myself other than what Rice Performance di & I had a legend Alfred Whiteside help me with the hedders. Took it for a test drive yesterday & it drives & stops really well but a handfull when you step on it. I plan to drag race it with the other gassers in Texas. Not quite legal for the East Coast Gassers. gasser6.jpg gasser6.jpg gasser.jpg gasser1.jpg gasser2.jpg gasser3.jpg gasser9.jpg gasser10.jpg

Sure ain't no turkey. Nice doesn't say enough.
    Thank you for sharing.
The choices you've made should pay off as you fly through the traps.
In school ('61 ) one of my teachers drove one. I would always linger around it.
Thanks for the word 'bout Rice, good to know

This was built a few decades ago, never had a full-size version. IMG_2536.jpeg IMG_2535.jpeg It Sure has “The Look”! 37-38 Chevys have always been a Favorite. Albert Whiteside is a Name, can’t wait to see it on the track, Carp!

  17. Love it, especially the mismatched wheels. They give it a "don't mess with me" vibe.

I've had a love affair with gassers, and late 30's Chevys for over 60 years!
Your '38 is really well done, and looks perfect!

I had a local legend Alfred Whiteside help me. He never touched a tape measure & cut out the tubes from a Speedway kit I bought. The man is unbelievably talented. He has a gasser also that he built all by himself. 64 Falcon with a big block Ford & 4 speed. I’m gonna be racing with him & his group East Coast Gassers Texas Style next year.

  28. I use 1938, not that I have room for another car but if the right one popped up I might consider cutting something loose.
    Congrats on the find
