Slightly off topic, but an important company to consider, especially when it comes to oil filtration and filters.
Luber-Finer has always made incredibly high quality products.

Products made in China and elsewhere are made to the quality standards that are set in the contract, by the brand.

Condemning the entire workforce and production capacity of an entire nation, doing exactly what they are paid to do, is pretty much the peak of hollow jingoistic nationalism.

Try to be better people, please.

Products made in China are indeed made to the purchaser's specs, but unless the purchaser has an on site rep watching production, and doing quality control occasionally, there's no way to confirm what goes out the door is exactly what was specified.
In talking with companies that have products built overseas most told me they had to have a rep at the factory almost full time to due QC work. They said the factories build the exact same parts for various companies, and label them accordingly. But the difference between parts is whether one company has any inspections done, and another that just takes whatever is sent to them.

I suspect that is now a universal truth. The days of an American worker remaining loyal to their product and company are sadly long gone and not entirely their fault. the days of a company remaining loyal to their product and workers have gone as well.

Say what you want, believe what you want, but the products I am forced to buy , that are made it China, have been crap! I bought a 50 amp male plug , for my MH, it broke before I could get it put on my pig tail! Wasted my money! Went into town, bought a USA made plug…..it is still on my motorhome, functioning perfectly for the last seven years! Just one example of several! Based on my experiences, I try my best to avoid China made stuff!

This is what I do…and I will not change! If you disagree…..you do you!

Made in USA hydraulic fitting on left, Chinese on right.

    upload_2024-11-29_18-39-30.jpeg

Ragged threads with bits of loose metal on USA one would not be good in a hydraulic system.

    You are incorrect.

These conditions do not exist. They are pure fantasy.

I have been to China, on behalf of some of the largest manufacturers in the US, either 32 or 33 times on factory inspections.

    Yes, I cannot actually remember.

    How about you?

I agree. Quality Control / Assurance of parts or finished product is normally based on a "quality plan" that a foreign customer has the Asian-based manufacturer follow from incoming raw material verification, in-process manufacturing and out-going quality control. Following this, rejected parts along the way are root-caused and the manufacturing process, inspection processes or, the actual part design are changed by the customer to prevent part rejection. Any components or product that are rejectable and that get shipped are usually the responsibility of the foreign customer not having a valid QC/QA plan and or not auditing their suppliers.

35 consecutive years travelling to 11 countries in Asia for molds, dies, part and product manufacturing.

I worked at a local water pump rebuilder in the 70's that sent their WP test station to their parent company to be rebuilt, was gone for six weeks, guess who did QC..................
It was a joint effort between the customer and NAPA!

Recently tuned up my 97 Chevy pickup with parts from Rock Auto. Paid big bucks for AC Delco plugs (made in China). NOT PLEASED!!
Did NOT pay big bucks for AC Delco wires, cap, & rotor knowing they'd be Mexican, Taiwan, or Chinese. United Motor Products (made in USA) parts were actually high quality. VERY PLEASED!!
Believe lifetime mandate of using only AC Delco parts in my GM cars now officially dead.
And yes, I stopped using AC Delco filters years ago and switched to Wix for same reason.

Regardless of where a product is made, QC is a job that is supposed to be conducted prior to product going out. And regardless of who's part it is, the responsibility to insure the QC was properly done is the company's whos name is on the product. You can't tell me that AC doesn't check nor have the ability to randomly open some boxes and verify that the parts are to the standard. And no matter where the parts are made, the people making them will make them to the minimum required standard. Some people will not even meet the standards and barely do what they are required to do. Even then, only that which will be checked on is marginally close. It's not a geographic problem it's a current culture problem.

Just got an AC Delco cast iron nose re-man starter for man. trans, ( kept the core) made in China, looks like it was restored, works perfect, everything part is new, except for nose and housing, I would buy again, by the we only use Baldwin and Purolator oil filters, we use the 15/20 K puro's, quality always appears excellent, hope it stays that way.

I am more concerned about the lack of easy acess to the correct filters for our old applications at the local part houses. The couter holders are constantly saying smaller diameter filters off their shelf are correct replacements. I don't care that they don't stock them but they can't seem to order me correct ones because the application numbers have all been changed.

Everyone is pointing fingers at China, the manufacturer, the QC man, Santa Claus, it makes no difference in the end result. Things made today are becoming junk! And a lot more stuff that has “ Made in China “ printed on it, has given me problems as of late!
Like it or lump it, it’s a fact….there is a ton of new “ junk” parts out there , now!
I ve only been out of the country on pleasure trips…..but I know the difference between good parts and bad parts! That was my job for over 33 years!

    Bones said that!

A couple days ago I got my order of stainless steel wheel nuts from the Celestial Kingdom (aka China), man they are beautifully made:

    upload_2024-12-3_22-37-9.jpeg

I'm a machinist and was scrutinizing them with another machinist, we agreed just how nice these parts are.

Many years ago I did order stainless wheel nuts from an American outfit but my letter and money order came back as the company had failed, sadly. So I did try to buy 'Merican first.
