Projects New Personality with Simple Changes

Has anyone notice how easy it is to change the personality of your car just by changing the wheels or hubcaps? What simple changes have you done to create a new persona for you ride?

Yep....

 

The wheels my car came with made me look like an idiot. Imagine that level of personality!

 

Are you sure it was the wheels?

 

Had two sets of wheels for my 60 Thunderbird, chrome wheels and fender skirts for a mild custom and American Torque Thrusts for a gentleman's hot rod. Definitely a personality change with the wheels.

 

The wheels were just a lucky guess…

 

Wheels, Tires, Lake Pipes, Bumper guards, spotlights, foglights, antennas, seat covers, package trays can be used to make simple changes.

 

Laid my windshield back using your cast pieces and I feel that greatly changed my As personality

 

That 57 takes you right back to the 60's as that was done a bunch then. I have a buddy who I ran around with in high school who would drive his folks Mopar and go cruise the Ave and when he got a few miles from the house would pull over and pop the stock full hubcaps off and wipe the dust off the wheels. He would go cruise the ave for few hours and then pop the caps back on on the way home. The funny story was that his folks spotted him one Friday night when they went out to dinner with friends and were riding down the same street as he was cruising on. That may have been the time he cranked the torsion bars up or down for "the look" as his dad fussed at him a bit.

 

Summer of 1966, Painted the stock wheels silver and bought a set of beauty rings at B&B auto parts in Renton Wa along with buying a Hellings and Stelling air cleaner and chrome breather cap. I fakeed a few guys out with those "Chrome wheels" and caused a few bets by guys as to if they were real or not by guys riding in other cars who stopped for a closer look and one getting a laugh on the other when I ran them.

 

Wheels, tires and stance can make or break a car as my grandpa has always said.

Arkansas Chrome, baby!

I had thought about this very thing before I actually took delivery of my 53 bel air 4 1/2 years ago. Thanks to overlap of styles of different eras I figured I could easily change era look with 21 nuts. Dog dish caps and 58 Impala steering wheel for fifties, chrome reverse and metal flake moon wheel for early sixties, and torque thrust ds and black rim grant wheel for late 60s/early 70s. Still plan on multiple sets to be able to change it up on a whim or in case of part failure

 

I couldn’t lose the Cragars fast enough.

 

The same yet different.

 

I've known several women who changed personalities faster than you could change your wheels. Does that count?

Lost the True Spokes.

 

I built my roadster with the whitewalls going for the 1955 look. I swapped on the mags two summers ago. I like both personalities, might go back to the whitewalls next summer.

 

IMHO;

I like the white walls better on this car.

 

My '56 F-100 isn't done yet, but the whole idea from the beginning is a very understated mild custom styling and basic white paint, so that the "look" can be changed with a simple tire & wheel swap, allowing the truck to morph into different eras and styles. I have 3 different sets of wheels & tires as of now, and I'm looking for another set to have a total of 4 different looks.

1. Painted stock 15" steelies, '57 Ford poverty hubcaps, and black wall radials. This is a basic driver type mild look that kinda blends between traditional and modern styling. I have this setup with 2 different Ford dog dish cap styles.

2. Aftermarket 15" steelies, full wheel covers, wide whitewall bias ply tires. More for the late 50's look if I'm feeling traditional. I have this setup, minus the full wheel covers which are undecided.

3. Modern big & little drag wheels, skinny front tires and drag radial tires out back. This will be a fast street truck that sees dragstrip action, so it's gotta have that look. I have this setup and because I'm me, this will likely be the primary setup for daily use.

4. American Daisy 200-S, mild size big & little black wall radials. This is for the late 60's-early 80's muscle look. I'm looking for these wheels currently.

 

Yeah....I've noticed.
