One of my high school car buddies passed away about a month ago. Went to see a couple of his vehicles that will likely be for sale at some point soon. I really like this one and may see if I can end up with it. He still had his high school cars too but they are OT for here.

Made a run to the hardware store and this was sitting out front in the middle of the OT jellybean vehicles. Waited for a while to maybe talk to the driver but he didn't show. Walked away and just as I got in my truck, the '57 fired up and left. 20241111_112733.jpg

Sorry to hear about your friend.
You can't go wrong with a '41 2 door sedan, they just have great lines. Good luck with it!

I looked at it but not real close. It is a pickup with some modern parts. It could have been in Fire Service at the beginning of its life.

Probably so, but Nash did have an assembly plant in California, too, at that time-- my '52 was built there and eventually made it back to WI.

It's a Seagrave. If you don't recognize the name, it started life as a roofless firetruck and was changed into a (large) pickup. Sorry about the modern wheels. I believe it's late 40's or early 50's.

    Hello,

So Cal has some unusual hot rods overall. Especially in the coastal area or at least near the shoreline of the ocean. This location was once one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in the whole south coast area. Since 1937, it has been pumping out fabulous authentic foods to locals and especially surfers moving up and down the coastline. Lucy’s El Patio restaurant… is/was a historic place…

Lunches and dinners were usually packed if one got there around noon and 6 p.m. So, planning ahead was mandatory. The inside only held so few tables and the take out line was always three to 4 deep. For such a small place, they were favorites for the years of our surfing road trips in 1960 all the way to the last time we had a dinner there.

“Movie stars, professional athletes and famous musicians aside, what’s more important to the past owners is the fact that generations of local families have made El Patio a tradition for graduation dinners, birthday parties.”

Sadly, the popular restaurant closed during the pandemic. The owners retired and it is still for sale or lease.

Gone are the packed parking lot(s) and array of cars, including surf station wagons, vans and of course hot rods. One salmon pink Flathead 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery was a regular. The popular Killer Dana Surf Spot was just up the road at the Headlands Point Cove. And it was on the way to or home from the Camp Pendleton surf adventures.

My wife and I drive by the empty lots on our way to take care of some business and errands. So, what pops up on looking out of the windshield?
    upload_2024-12-19_4-16-1.png
A 1931 Chevy hot rod, straight from the old time cruising period. But, for the time being, it was the only car in the lot, sitting nicely in the shade of the tree that has been there for ages.

A perfect place for a old memory to come back in full swing… YRMV

    Note:
Rumor has it that the restaurant is making a possible comeback, which is great. Or, the owners are refurbishing the insides to make the new lease more favorable for any restaurant to come right in and start at a great food location, again... excellent for So Cal history.
