First post - purchased a 30 Tudor and it had juice brakes on it from an 80’s restoration. Could someone confirm what year these are off of?

Those are early 40's lincoln brakes.. Bendix made, very sought after brakes.. Not the typical 39-41 or 42-48 lockheed style ford brakes. Total score!

If you guys were rebuilding a 39 transmission to go behind a mildly hopped up A banger (6.5 head, Mallory dist., downdraft with single 2 barrel) would you use the stock 39 gears? Or build it with Lincoln gears? Would the Lincoln gears even be worth it on a banger?

Running 7.00 x 16 tires in the rear with a stock rear end.

  10. I would go with the 39 gear set with the 28 tooth cluster. That's if your rear is the 3.78 one. That's what I had in my roadster and I had no complaints.

  11. I have a Volvo M40 gearbox behind my 4Banger, 4 gears synchro.
    Just a thought.

Zephyrs are nice for the close ratios but you might want a quickchange rear to get the right final drive for city or highway driving. I had this setup until recently, I broke the zephyr gears (repop gears, lesson learned, only buy originals) I now have 28 tooth ford gears in there. Works good just a bigger drop between gears.

Just helped a friend install a blown flathead in a 37 with a 39 box and a Columbia rear end. We have on the bench a 37 Cad-Lasalle that will eventually replace the 39 Ford. No tail shaft will be used although we have the short Olds tail shaft. He also has a Halibrand adaptor but wants to stick with the early flathead. Am in the process of making the front adaptor plate and will adapt the rear mount to keep the closed driveshaft. This is all early hot rodding, but the question is, what will keep the Columbia together? Just a rhetorical question, but the same applies to the Zephyr and the Columbia.

I can't remember the company, but they make some upgrades for the Columbia. I have a friend with a 331 hemi in front of one and it's held up fine. The car was built by his dad like that back in '55 and he wanted to keep the rearend.

That truck looks so cool. Are those the brewster caps on 35 wires? Look awesome.

They're covers made by Kevin Lee, I've had them forever. I've run them on everything with '35 type wires. They're awesome with whitewalls!

  18. I'm looking to feature some photos or video of a Hal SOHC to wrap up my video on Harry Hosterman. Does anyone know of someone who owns one? Thank you, guys!! Screenshot 2024-12-05 at 10.28.00 AM.png

Wicked cool pic Retson! Neat to see the secondary intake manifold over the plugs being used. Wonder if they used the intake manifold on the other side too…?

What supports the cam? Do you have those parts? How do you adjust the valve lash?

The water pump on the sprinter engine appears to be from a Model T. I was not aware that these heads had an 'extra' intake port on the driver side. I know the Morton and Brett A heads had intake ports on both sides but......

  24. I've decided to just drive my car as much as humanly possible this winter, and finish up the OHV conversion once the temps climb back up next spring.

In that spirit, if anyone finds themselves in Sin City next weekend, I've been trying to get something HAMB-related together. Guaranteed to be at least one car there...

Well, yeah, I'd give $135.00 for one of those set-ups. You know, as long as it was new.

$135 was probably 13 1/2 weeks pay at that time.

    Probably longer than that.
"The Model A was available in four standard colors, but not black. Prices ranged from $385 for a roadster to $570 for the top-of-the-line Fordor."
So, almost half the cost of a new car.
