Well since this is an OT forum, the first thing I'd buy is Land, to store all my choice to purchase...

  2. I have absolutely no interest in the "Next Big Thing" I am perfectly happy building and collecting period correct race car and hot rod parts.

Let the trend chasers worry about the next big next!

G bodies, fieros, fox bodies..... All that stuff appeals to an older demographic. The next big thing won't be cars that us boomers like. It's going to be the 90s - 2000s cars that 40 yr old millennials like.
Is be looking at stuff like NA-NB Miatas, especially the special editions.

Dent side or Bullnose Ford Pickups. A short bed being the more desirable in either 2 or 4 wheel drive.

Fox body mustangs are definitely on the climb right know but allway hedge your bets on the GM trucks the next generation up is 1999 to 2007 and so on.

    Hello,

Although the Nova sedan is pretty outstanding, we, as older folks these days are more into station wagons for our daily road trips or adventures along the Westcoast shoreline. Plus, Oregon is not too far away from So Cal. Ha! My wife and I have been there and back to So Cal, many times driving plenty of different cars and station wagons.
    upload_2024-11-22_4-4-32.png
Earlier I drew what we would like to have as a custom hot rod Nomad Station Wagon. Originally, it was a 1965 Chevelle two door wagon, but over time, the smaller station wagon set up as nice as DDDenny’s sedan has more to offer. One being easy to fit into our small two car garage with plenty of space between cars for wider door openings. My old knee needs room to sit and swing in both legs for easy access.
    upload_2024-11-22_4-5-27.png
But then, we needed another door and more access for our college age granddaughter when we visit. So, for her, the 327 would satisfy the sound she used to hear when her favorite 64 Falcon Convertible came idling down her street. It was a thing to run to the edge of the garage to wave at the owner and the rumbling convertible as it cruised by her house.

Don’t worry about getting on in age, our bodies are just telling us to slow down and enjoy life. We retirees deserve it. If it is a coastal road trip, then off we go. If it is to sit and watch the rain come down all afternoon, then out come the books and laptop for art work , for new designs as well as a few more stories from memory. YRMV

But, since your build is not a station wagon, get it running and enjoy those rainy Oregon winter days until the snow comes along to sock it in for some weeks… ha!

  7. My first car was a '73. I got to know LOTS of things about the early second gen Camaros. I collected parts from the pull it yourself junkyards and resold somethings. Back then you almost couldn't give away those years, it was all about the First gen. I sold my last parts for those in the late 90s (good money as the parts still weren't in repo). The early second gen has been pricey for about 15-17 years now. Even the imports are commanding high prices (Toyota, Datsun/Nissan, Honda) from the 70s to 90s models.
The next big thing would be whatever the current generation that has disposable income grew up with.

Look at any online publication here and almost everything older then 1995 or so is high.

My last one was a 70 1/2 RS, I like those the best. In the future IF I need a old man cushy car I might return to those with an a/t and stirrup shifter. Those are like a modern car even compared to 60s cars.

79-81 "disco" Z-28, all options, 4 speed and t tops are a must. Fully restored 40k? I have seen a few in the teens worth painting. Air induction...awesome. Fast Times!

Perfect SE Bandit cars are 50k and up for the 77-78, add 10k for a 4 gear car. I haven't found a "builder" for less than 20k in several years so I quit buying them.

‘13/‘14 GT500’s are holding value well and I expect them to gradually rise in value.

japanese domestic market. Sheesh, aren't there any kids nearby that can explain this stuff to you? :)

(0r you could just google it)

(JDM means it was sold only in Japan, not imported to the US, so they were all Right Hand Drive)

I had a couple JDMs, both what is considered Kei class ( smaller than a model T ) . Yes they really are the next big thing, and people with patience in paperwork can import them and make a bit of money. Some of the cars are just funky looking and ‘cool’ because the US or most of the world really hasn’t seen anything like them. I imported one of mine, and the other I bought from an import dealer… but 2 was enough and I’m good with them. Don’t need any more

first one I noticed was at cruising the heartland this summer early 90s Miata JAP import looked just like the one I used to own other than badges and steering on the right . Didn't know it was a new trend till later

Some of the Miata’s from over there are turbocharged. A lot of the vehicles have more hp than what came here. But cars like the Toyota Sera have wild styling. And a Sera was built on the Tercel platform. My mailman has a mid 90s Mitsubishi outlander except it’s their model with a diesel.

So says the guy who goes by the anachronistic name of @29A-V8 which is a short hand (abbreviated) reference to a 1929 Ford Model A with a 1932-up Ford V8 engine or engine/chassis swap! :p

The HAMB may be a safe space for 60 plus year old modified vehicles, but this thread is in the O/T section and might have a few acronyms that post date 1965!:D

'79-'85 Mazda first gen RX-7's are pretty rare after cash for clunkers, even parts cars are waay up in value. Recently had to pay $40 for a used parking lite lense on ebay. Also great candidates for engine swaps after the rotary dies, trans tunnel is big enough to fit a T56...

Hey RodStRace I give you credit at least you didnt have to ask what an A-V8 is, so do ya think cause they have been around for maybe 80 years or more.
Your also right about the O/T section here. I might be some what stuck in the past and I might even like it there or here or there however you want to put it. So if there are no dumb questions, as I have heard, did I ask a dumb one?:D:rolleyes:

I was just having a bit of fun with ya! Most people that are willing to post "I don't know that" are at least willing to admit, and probably also willing to learn, up to a point.
Funny, I just did a search for "A-V8" and didn't get the definition. "JDM" was defined though. Seems like the old stuff isn't getting codified into modern search stuff well. I blame it in this case on 3 (or 4) digits being tough to focus on. Heck, not a month goes by here where someone questions a term and it's definition or limits. If there is a member here that has access to editing wiki, they may want to add more terms.

Jim answered your question, otherwise I would have. In fact, I responded to your reply to Jim. So, no it was not stupid. You used them lil faces (smilies) in your reply to indicate light heartedness, and so did I. You aren't as illiterate as you claim! Anyone who says they know it all is one less trusted source! I hear others rattle off all the Asian engine acronyms and I get confused just as quick as you!

I'd say that you could respond that it's good because you don't understand women, but we both know how that's going to work out!
We can watch Monty Python and get dry humor or watch The Three Stooges and get slapstick. Yet it never fails that some survey says women want a partner who makes them laugh... and they shake their heads at both of those.
