    Roadsters are always a priority.

  3. After a big set back like a blown engine. Sometimes it's best to change gears. Do a mock up on another car. Change something you've been meaning to change in your "finished car" Or whatever it is to change your focus....

instead of lighting the current car on fire.

Or... put a 265/283 in it and spend the savings on chrome!

(I am full of good advice.)

Or maybe put in a Studebaker v8. If it was good enough for Dean Moon & his '34, & Eric Rickmann(sp?) early corvette, + it came out in '51, well... :D .

I had my annual Neal's Hot Rod Party and reliability run on Saturday. This was the 23rd annual. I keep it small, as it had grown out of control for a couple of years, so now it's just the 19 of us.

Neal, The louvers look great on the hood sides. Time to blow it apart and make it purple. Enjoyed following the built. Ron

I did manage to squeeze in a couple of things on the 5W project.

I finally got the courage to redrill the holes in the cowl that had been leaded shut.

I also cut up some bent original 32 bumper irons to make spreader bar caps similar to the ones on the rear. These will get sent off to be plated.

I've seen the cowl mount antenna's before & have a 32-cowl section with one still attached somewhere within the confines of my barn, I must admit with a bit of ingenuity it could be incorporated through the upper & lower hinge pins & save the sheet metal.

The run looked like a great time. I'm glad you mounted the antenna—it was meant to be there (again).

Right? Sometimes these old cars tell you what they need.

And you'll have to make the trip down in your roadster next year!

Did some repairs on the firewall feet yesterday. Welding up the all too common cracks in the bases

    20241207_152544.jpg

Prepping these to send out for chrome

    20241207_152535.jpg

Also organized my 40 years of mismatched ratchets and extensions using some magnetic organizers I impulse bought off of IG. Not perfect, but it's better than all thrown in the drawer...

Found one more crack that required a patch repair. The hole was too close to the edge, so I made the patch curve out slightly

Feet have been test fit back on the firewall. I found some hex head 12-24 stainless screws. The head is just 5/16" hex, so I plan to polish them and use for final assembly.
    20241208_105049.jpg 20241208_105040.jpg

The feet are now ready to send off for chrome and then firewall can be blasted and prepped for paint.

    Onward with the minutia...

  24. Nice save in the firewall feet.
Here’s a fastener alternative I used on my old beater, FWIW.
Polished Stainless rivet head bolts with lock nuts.
From ThirdGen Automotive if I remember right.

I didn't like how low the car sat in the back, so I added one more leaf

    20240929_181512.jpg

I think this has a more authentic 50's look with it showing more blackwall and the whitewall more concentric with the fender radius.

Super low looks rad, but the new height looks less cartoony,
Your coupe @NealinCA sits so nice!

I dig both stances but a little rake is a great choice.

I know the super low stance has some attitude, but agree that it is also kind of cartoony. It was never what I was going for with this build. I always pictured a more "dorky" 50's stance. I really want this car to look like it came out of the "little pages". I will keep playing with it until it's right...

How does the added leaf ride? When I was assembling my sedan I removed one leaf from the original spring to soften the ride (I had never driven it before). After a few years I was tired of bottoming out in the back and pulled the spring. I dearched the main leaf and a few more above it, and added the removed leaf back in as well. It rides perfectly now, and sits the same as it did when I first assembled it. Henry’s guys must have known what they were doing.
