I don't have a lot of info yet but as of now it has angle plug heads and pink rods. I am trying to figure out the engine vin and code but can't figure it out.

Is that oil pan painted gold or cad plated, looks like a 70 style Corvette 6 quart pan.
The angle plug heads were over the counter not production installed.
Can you scratch across the cast date on rear of block, looks kind of like C 23 5, maybe 1975?

Your block is missing a digit (a 0) in the casting number, the 010 block could be either 2 or 4 bolt main. I think those heads are the 340292’s, in addition to the angle plugs the intake ports are larger than other SBC heads. They have 2.02/1.60 valves, screw in studs, guide plates and slightly larger intake ports as cast. Those heads were over the counter only.
Give us the info stamped on the deck in front of the passenger head. Looks like a nice find.

The head number checks out as over the counter 2.02 "turbo" heads.
They were must have heads back in the day.

Those heads were the best available in 1972. No heat crossover, 2.02, 1.6 valves as machined by GM, over the counter only. Nominal 64 cc chambers. Heavy castings, thicker deck surface than production heads. Good score for a 70s era race engine build.

According to Chevrolet, the angle plug 2.02 head was supposed to be good for 10 - 20 HP over the straight plug 2.02 head. The angle plug was supposed to shorten the flame front travel in the combustion chamber. I ordered a set for my sprint car as soon as they came available.

I don't recall the exact numbers but those weren't necessarily an "across the board" improvement, they required the correct piston/combustion ratio to appreciate any gains.

Chevy had several over the counter cams. Off road #1 and # 2 were mechanical flat tappet cams. Very popular in the day

The partial VIN C5F.... means 1975 Chevy truck built in Flint. Which matches the TXA suffix info that DDDenny provided above.

The heads have a Zero at the end of the date code, so they're from 1970? or 1980?

Were angle plug heads available in 1970?

I bought a set when they first came out and that would have been around 1975 or 76.

Stamped on pad on front of block, passenger side (unless you are a Brit).

On Chevy engines, we can tell a lot from 4 sets of numbers. On the back of the block will be the casting number, which is usually 6 or 7 digits long. Example: 3970010. Also back there, is the casting date, which is a letter followed by two to 4 numbers. Example: C 26 5

On the front of the engine, stamped on the pad on the top of the block, just in front of the pass side cylinder head, will be one or two sequences of numbers/letters. The engine number is a letter followed by 4 numbers, then two or three letters (usually). The other is the partial VIN, which was used starting in the late 60s on most engines, it will have 9 characters, the first three can be letters or numbers, followed by 6 numbers.

it works best if you post pictures of all the numbers...so we can figure out if they're original, and what they mean.

Often you'll find a block has been decked, and the original numbers are gone, and a shop stamped something else in it's place. Also there are a few oddities, like 60s-7os crate replacement engines, and engines from Canada, or industrial uses, have different series of numbers stamped on them.

If that's the case, that would be the solid lifter camshaft used from 1964-69 in the 327 365 and 375 horsepower engines, as well as the 302 found in the '67-'69 Z/28s.

I have no idea what this would be. A picture would be a great help to figure it out.

If it's F0616RF or F0616RE then like he said it could be a 62-64 Corvette engine. The higher HP engines got partial VIN stamps on them starting in the early 60s, they have 7 or 8 digits. As an example, this is what the stamp on my 62 Corvette engine looks like:

    block numbers.jpg

The 4120434 number could be a 1964 Corvette engine, for car number 20434, which was built in June, 1964. The RE suffix was used on the 365 HP engine, the RF suffix was used on the fuelie 375 HP engine.
