is there a low mount out there the looks... remotely not modern?
    everything looks 1800hotrodparts.com or billet.

hoping knows of one not absolutely hideous.

    thanks

^^^ It would look better with hex-head bolts. I wouldn't trust those Chineseum socket-heads, anyway.

Pretty simple to make whatever you like; that's hot rodding.

Street Rodder magazine in the early 70s, had instructions on how to make your own, like the one on Ebay. Back when people built their own parts/cars.

I've used several of the 209L brackets from Alan Grove that use the smaller CS130 GM alternator and tuck it in tight on the left side but not hanging to low. Like all the AG brackets well built and designed.

Here's some pics of one I made from 3/4"x1" steel bar stock and 3/4" dia cold rolled round. Rectangular stock was bent in my press...

This one has been to 8600 many times, never thrown a belt.

Make a paper pattern and contact one of the local guys in your area that does N/C plasma cutting. Then put a bend or three on the bracket so it isn't all flat and you can make it look like old stuff. If it turns out well, buy a plate of steel and have the guy make a production run for you. Something like that ought to sell well..........or talk the guy into making the proto type for you and then selling them himself. Friend of mine has an N/C plasma cutter, and he makes nice brackets with it for his stuff....even small ones.:)

Here's what I built for mine. It slides the alternator up and down the side of the block.

  15. Homemade from three pieces of 1/4 inch flat stock stacked together. A piece of heavy wall tubing spaces the alternator to align with the pulleys. Short water pump and Nippondenso alternator.

I started a bit of a storm asking about this. I will mention that it depends on if you are going short WP which doesn't allow for a std GM alt to be tucked in or a long WP which does. You didn't say which side, either.

Of course, one of the modern mini alts. increases the choices.

I have decided on the Alan Grove passenger side mount, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. These fine people with raw stock, cutting and grinding equipment and welders ready to go are correct. It can be done at home for not much money. If you are working in less fortunate circumstances, but have a few bucks, there are choices that don't look like 1-800 bling.

I'll also note that in my case, the WP is a basic one that doesn't have the required extra mounting holes. This means I've got to get another WP too.

Kind of hard to see but I used the referenced eBay kit with a short water pump and standard GM 10SI alternator. It’s tight but works fine.

Also the Grove 209L doesn't hang the alternator below the plane of the crank pulley.

I’ve shown this before, I my case I had a Vega box in the way. I used a Saws All and removed the fuel pump boss, ground the ugly stuff smooth and plugged the holes with core plugs. One bracket that bolts to the passenger side motor mount holes in the front of the block and a short piece of 5/16 ID heavy wall tube to serve as the belt adjuster is all it takes. Short pump with a factory two groove pulley lines up perfectly and I put a belt on from the crank to water pump just I case I lost the alternator belt. It may not look like it but the radiator hose clears just fine. IMG_2623.jpeg
Maybe a little extreme but I didn’t want a high mounted alternator

How many guys remember mounting the alternator under the car running off the driveshaft? a few guys with T-buckets I know ran this setup back in the day.

In considering it on my 31 A PU build with no fenders and a 32 shell was also thinking of a AC compressor under there as well . Im going to run a magneto ignition so in traffic id be Ok and well for the AC Id need to be moving but it would be better than no AC .
Figure I could hide the lines mostly and put the rest under he seat .
Planned on a big battery in the back to put some weight there anyway .

Im hoping this will use my 331 Hemi if I can ever get going on getting it running .

Alternators charge spinning in either direction so one could also turn them around to fit them in a better location
there are ready made set ups to put the alternator on a 9" rear end

    Thanks for the compliment!
Not a chance of making them for sale. It is a one time deal to solve a fitment problem in a home built chassis. I just posted it as one possible solution. Besides, do you know how long it takes to make curved slots with a drill, cold chisel and a half round file?
