@19Eddy30 the blue A roadster was built in IMG_3529.jpeg Australia in the 1960’s . It was channeled over an A frame & full fendered , here’s how it looked originally.

    Hello,

My brother’s idea of a cool hot rod for teenagers involved a Model A coupe and an SBC motor. Not just a dual quad SBC motor, but one with a Paxton supercharger with multiple belts. The sound of the centrifugal supercharger on a motor was the plus factor. When he saw a drag race sedan with a similar motor, he knew that was going to be “the” motor for competition and a hot rod for the street.

(plus, he never admitted it, but I think his idea of this Model A hot rod was to compete with his friend, who had built up a big Oldsmobile motor + LaSalle transmission in a pristine 34 5 window coupe. That was the hot set up for the drags and top dog at the local high school.)
upload_2024-12-18_3-23-1.png slight chop, but not too much to feel cramped inside.

So, we searched high and low. I was able to spot an old Model A coupe under a canvas tarp in a neighbor’s yard. The bumper and front end was somehow exposed and it looked nice. My friend’s and I were walking to our own neighborhood school and this was the route. Once I told my brother about the old Model A under the tarp, he wanted to go see it. Upon arrival at the lady’s house, there it was, under an old canvas tarp in some tall weeds of her backyard. She had her own car and this one was her late husband’s car. Partially faded black paint, but fairly good seats and tires.

It did not start, but the tires allowed us to pull/push it out to the street. We tied on a large diameter, boat tying dock line to the brackets and started our pull scene home, several blocks and one major street away. I steered the Model A and my brother drove his 51 Oldsmobile sedan. No mishaps, other than one dip that we both had to slow down and then when he started up again, the rope stretched and jerked both cars.

Finally, we got it home and immediately started to clean it up and try to start it with new fluids, battery and spark plugs.

Back in December 1959, we saw the Joe Pisano’s Red version of the Model A coupe sitting in the pits at the Riverside Raceway big drag race in So Cal. I had to take a short video as we did not have a 35mm camera as yet.

Sorry, no action shots, but it is the only color photo of the nicely built Model A coupe from 1959 in drag racing circles.

My brother was impressed as that was how he had envisioned our Model A Coupe as a daily driver and weekend drag racing coupe. A supercharged SBC, no 671 superchargers at the time, but we were going for a 301 c.i. motor and a Paxton centrifugal supercharger. Good for the drags and daily driving to school/work, etc. He had his vision and now it was mine, too. My ulterior motive was that with the Model A coupe running, my brother would take it to school and cruising. So, I was going to be the recipient of the cool, lowered 51 Oldsmobile two door post model sedan, with Moon Discs. Ha!

The red one we saw a year later always stuck in my own mind and visions of what it would have looked like on the street and at the drags in B/GAS or C/Gas class competition. Plus, this final choice did not have a chop, as we found out it was a little cramped inside for a couple of growing teenagers. So, now the vision was one with no chop at all...

Except for the fact that he had sold his 51 Oldsmobile two door post sedan and the running black, 4 cylinder Model A Coupe to buy his new 58 Impala for all of his teenage activities. Go figure…

    Note:
upload_2024-12-18_3-27-11.png A lowered level pose, instead of a rake style appearance, just gave the Model A coupe some attitude and a cool hot rod stance... We would just have to lower the bucket seats and move them back as far as possible in the cab. YRMV

reading the Title of this thread... got me thinking....what model A does it for me ??? pretty hard question...and where a lot of guys fail...there's so much on the menu....So in thinking.... what model a does everything??? a whole lot of others ,and my self fail at that...and try to make a car something it will never be...like standing at the counter at baskin robins... and having to pick one flavor...I lke cars with power, one's that'll smoke the hides off... but I still have a craving for the ol timey traditional junk... not to no kinda safety standards of the new cars on the road...spend thousands try'n to bump up 10 or 15 more hp... I remember as a kid.... wanting to hit the 200 mph in a 1/4.. for what? you might ask...just to do it.... now I feel the same craving to be able to saay my model A will run 100.. so now I have a few that'll do it.... just not with banger motors...but at the same time they are some what safe....and I have quite a few T's and A's that struggle to run 50... and T"s that are spooky at 25... so anyway.... here's my junk pile... most won't like any of them... but I like them all...or hate at times....lol

so I say, they all do something different for me....I just have to pick the right one for the event...

Flatty powered A. 17 years in the making, so for me, yes, it doesn’t get much better than this IMG_8859.png
