Didn't take a pic of anything fresh this morning, but can't remember if I shared my gear cowboy before.

    Hello,

It was 1965 and I was away for college. I had a nice 65 red El Camino to make things easier on the long drives back to So Cal from the S.F. Bay Area on holidays and vacation spurts. At the time, our lives were changing and the El Camino was geared for outdoor activities. Surfing? Tie down the board in the back and off I went to the local beaches from So Cal to Santa Cruz. Motorcycles fit right into the back for those long distance desert races of 40-50 miles per course.

So, how does a custom station wagon fit into the active lifestyle for a 20 something? The El Camino was good for most outdoor activities. And the image of a station wagon was for family vacations to campgrounds and resort destinations. I could not see my self driving a station wagon at anytime, other than outdoor forested camp sites or sandy beach front sleepovers.

    Jnaki

The Buick Sport Wagon was a mid-size station wagon built by Buick and was shared with the Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser, Pontiac Tempest Safari and Chevrolet Chevelle. The wheelbase was stretched from 115 to 120 inches and to give adequate headroom for adults in the third seat the roof was raised behind the second seat, with tinted windows at the leading edge and the sides.

    Note:

I was still steaming that I could not order a 65 El Camino with a 396 c.i. motor, a 4 speed transmission with my Chevy dealer order. (my desert racing motorcycle friend ordered a 66 El Camino and guess what he ordered?) So, I was tending towards a Buick or Oldsmobile sport wagon skylight version, not a Chevelle model. Even in the vast desert open spaces, an El Camino bed sleepover is still wet and moist when one turns over or gets up early for breakfast. A fine mist covers the car, motorcycle, and the occupants of the wide open, El Camino bed.

But, as far as a custom 65 Chevelle Nomad station wagon was concerned. A two door “nomad” version would have been a step in the right direction, to order. Also, a station wagon would not leave its occupants moist from the evening/overnight dew in the desert or along the coastline of the western surf spots. YRMV
upload_2024-12-20_7-30-7.png Perhaps a sister custom station wagon nomad style is better suited to our surf adventure needs... a 65 two door Chevelle "Nomad" station wagon.

Merry Christmas. Been a while since I’ve drawn anything car related. Did this one for a Yankee swap gift this year.

    GARFORD PS.jpg
I have a good friend who's into anything old, cars, trucks and motorcycles. He came across this 1920's Garford truck. It ran but needed a thorough going over. He redid all the mechanicals, tires and wiring but decided to leave the original patina. The rust in most cases was surface so he just sealed everything. Built a new bed and other wood areas, floor and seat. He's had it to a few shows and in the fall attended the old truck show at Greenfield Village.
The drawing was done on white Stonehenge paper with Prismacolor pencils. It's 14 x 17 inches.

Christmas Meeting at the Covered Bridge

A early 1940s yellow coupe stops at an one lane bridge to allow a pickup truck carrying a fir tree to pass through. A curious squirel observes the scene while a father with his son and companion dog watch the cars on the bridge near a snowman they just built. Their minds are full of what Christmas will bring and tasks needed to be done. Christmas is near in rural Nova Scotia.
