Are you sure about that? Are you absolutely certain it's not the distance from the WMS to the rim's inside edge?

Absolutely positive... but not long ago there was a thread here explaining it all..but like I said, if you read your post link from mickey... it explains it all..more people get confused there because there are so many that measure it wrong.... kinda like removing batt cables... there only one right way to do it...

just might help to read the thread from the begining.....the car was bought as a parts car to get the frame and title to build a more tradition car...I have stacks of traditional wheels and tires... who would have even thought the wire wheels would be 5 on 4.5..., so the only sets I have are trailer wheels.. theres lots of history with this car...for sure it was a steel car at one point... and someone took the steel body off and put a glass one.... the chassis was done long ago... split bones and all...my thought was pull the body.. then I'd every thing to do the chassis to put a steel ford body....figured pull it apart and paint the frame satin black...at that time I could do all the frame mods I want .. so while looking for steel 32 donner body, I came across the 31 vicky.... I know the 31 vicky doesn't go on a 32 frame...nore does the 32 truck grille go on the vicky.... so please don't tell me I need a macs catalog.. but... to me it's a cool idea... and would fit in the barn with the other ol timey cars I have... this Screaming Yellow Zonker belongs in the land of misfit toys...and I really don't think It has a real identity... some stuff done in 1931 and modernized from then on....I see here where people walk the swap meets and check the market place hunting for traditional parts to build a chassis.... I just did one stop shopping...

so, with all that said... heres why I got the chrome wheels... they don't go with a traditional build... but they go spot on to this fiberfab job roadster.... the plan has changed directions.. and I'll explain...yes the tires are a mistake.... all the way around...but...I can take them back... or keep them for something else... the whole frame on this car is wrong for what I want so might as well leave it as is..... and heres why... they put too wide of a rear for a tradition car,...bobbed the frame and removed the rear tank.. they bobbed the front and pinched the front rails.. put the motor in too low... so by the time I blow it apart... it would be easier, faster, and cheeper to just get a set of rails and start from scratch ..this car is a real nice driver...I could always just stick some big mooneyes stickers on the cowl, and screw some disc's on the wheels,... the wheels were less than 100 each, and I got them free, so way cheeper and quicker than buying new steel wheels and having them powder coated... but pretty sure I could get the wheels free and the powder coating free... just would use up a favor...

  6. I did. But ya keep posting that super cool crusty32. as an example of what ya wanted.
    so I get confused.
It’s a parts car so treat it like one.
Yank it apart, spray it to resemble the crusty 32.
Toss the chrome steeet rod parts in the swap meet
4.5 steel wheels are super EZ to find. A can of black spray paint and done
    And enjoy.

You could be miles ahead if you narrowed the axle. That way you'd not be looking for wheels with out of the ordinary specs.

I have real fords from 23 to 29 missing 30 and 32 to 36 and I have a 37... I'm looking to have a 30 and 32 right now.. why??? I have way more dollars than sense i guess... but what happened in the last 4 years was pretty scarry... my liquid assests lost 60 % in buying power... what used to be 50 cents now cost over a dollar... I have a bunch of R.E...in 3 states and more zip codes than I know... so, I think it's gonna happen again here real soon.. old cars and R.E. seem to hold there own.. they go up like the tide... so at least you stay where you are at percentage wise..

as far as the 32, like I post there's too much headed in the wrong direction for where I wanted to go... I bought it off a pic and picked it up in the dark.. and it was a 16 hour trip...that said it could have been way way way worst for what I paid... so some disappointment for what my plan was... but easy enough to change the plan....I like the response I got, cause those who know see the same things I see... I remember 50 years ago putting G78 tires on the back of my hi boys,... while most were putting N50's and putting long shackles on the rear to get half the tire sticking out the car...

an old timer very respected hot rodder in vegas told me this.. the next thing you should put on this car is a for sale sign...lol...

as far as the wheels and tires... gonna go a little shorter front tire on the front with a 5'' tread the rim is 5'' and go to a wider tread tire on the back... the rear problem is really only there when you put skinny bias tires back there,

Backspace is from the back (inside) of the wheel to the mounting surface. Hence the name backspace.

Big number = pulled in. Small number = pushed out. Relative to wheel width of course.

No positive, negative, or imperial to metric conversions needed.

I like the car wish it was in my garage I would put the hood back on. looked back and seen part of the hood with louvers in a photo. change the steering wheel.probably put some wheels and tires like I posted above & get some traditional pin striping on it. I seen you posted that the car is comfortable & runs and drives well.I think I could really enjoy putting some miles on it

that looks cool to me....I just got back from about a 30 mile round trip to the tire store....the car is a treat to drive... and even better with the newest tires... spent 5 hours trying different tires...
the rear needs to be I believe 55'' wms to wms... and its at 59'' years ago I knew what doner cars had ford 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern..but at 71 I forget a lot... I walk out to the barn and for get why when I get there...

anyway.. the tires I ended up keeping on 235-75-15 and 185-65-15 ,.. I could probley with a narrow rear end get away with more traditional wheel and tire set up,.. and it's something I could do at my shop... as is ,,,it's gonna take a lot of fab work to lower it,... so maybe swap the rear at the same time....anyone know whats the go to rear for a 32 roadster?? a 5on 5.5 would be sweet.. about 55'' wide???? then I could swap out the rotors and have the right bolt pattern for all the wheels I already have...or at least buy the right ones...I don't remember when the trend was to put 20'' wheels on these cars, but think this car was done right before that time... 1980-1990???

    IMG_8886[9480].JPEG IMG_8887[9479].JPEG

the rear needs to have the lic. plate moved up on the body between the lites...but I gotta wait till it's lowered to be sure.... looks too empty and plain with the tank gone and the rolled pan...

    IMG_8888[9478].JPEG

the front is fine for me.... gonna move the shock mounts forward, that'll put the lites about 4'' forward...

the first pic???? the wheels are 15x5 and 15x 7... sure looks like 14's in the front...thats another thing.... this car is a lot better looking standing there looking at it

  21. One alternate idea on wheels and tires: go with a 8.5-10 inch wide rear wheel with enough backspace (4.75-5 inches) to get closer to body. Run a 285 to 295/70R15 rear tire, and then a 4-5 inch front wheel with 155/80R15 front tire. It will fit the style of the car if you get wheels like Halibrand style or salt flats style alum wheels; or steel wheels. It will solve the rear tire to body issue, and give a bigger rubber rake. Then lower the rear suspension a couple inches. It's a pretty common look on 32s.

this is why you have to know poss. and neg off set....we buy thousands of dollars of tires and wheels a month.... ordering wrong tires and wheels costs us money.... so here you go, this is the info the man.. give to order the wheels... notice the -32mm this is a neg off set wheel

    Product Brand: Us Wheel
    Product Model: Smoothie
    Wheel Width: 10

    Wheel Size: 15
    Wheel Bolt Pattern: 5x114.3
    Wheel Bolt Pattern: 5x120.65

    Center Bore: 81.02

knowing the wheel is 10'' thats where the tire is mounted on the in side of the rim...

    a 10'' rim is 11'' wide.. 0 offset means it's 5.5'' back space... when you convert -32mm
its 1.25984252 ''... so you have to subtract 1.25 from 5.5, which gives you a neg off set rim that has a 4.25 back space and will stick out from the wms 6.75"

That's a reasonable copy of a Halibrand Sprint wheel, and would look like a better copy if the spinner was better, or absent! There are other copies which are better imo, Real Rodders, American Rebel, but I'm sure at a cost. What's the pricing on the one pictured? Much better than the 'old school' you have fitted now though, but as narrow as you can get for the front.

my cost is about 100 a wheel for either.. but I buy so many that they usually give me free wheels when Its for my car... the wheels I have now are 7''s 0 off set... so 4'' back space, going to 8'' would bring the wheels to 4.5 back space... more the problem i'm seeing is it needs to be lowered a couple inches...I'm not as much worried about the style as the proper fitment right now...pretty mush have excepted the fact that it mirrors car from the 80's style...is what it is...I wanted chrome wheels to go with the rest of the chrome on the car... polished wheels start heading down the billet rabbit hole...

I've been trying...the problem is trying to find a positive off set rim in 10''... they all look like rice burner wheels.. a zero offset 10''wheel is 5.5 back space... that would really help...bring the wheels in 1.5 from where they are now... I went with the old school wheels because they make a 5'' wheel.... none of the other styles offer that..... and neither offer a 10'' wide wheel..

any more pics of this car... like a rear shot.... this car is really easy on the eye.. red wheels match the pin stripe, white walls match interior...

I'm stuck with yellow ,tan, or chrome...
