Recall them while you can Johnny, mine are leaving me daily!
Here's one of my Moms' sayings, it really has no relevance to this thread but it's a favorite of mine and sort of a public service announcement considering we (many of us) will be enjoying some adult refreshments.................

I ground down the casting imperfections and gave my Flathead a tri-tone red paint job over the weekend.

My old friend did a pair of v8 heads and helped with a pair of v12's. In side of garage looked like a brillo pad.

  8. Today is Little Truckdoctor’s 15th birthday! I could say something about it’s time to take him out and teach him to drive Papaw, but, Little Truckdoctor is a farm kid like I was and he’s been driving Papaw for the last 3-4 years. What I really need to do, is take Little Truckdoctor out and properly teach him how to wind out a Small Block Chevrolet.

Sometimes you have to fix the tools and equipment too. Long-term-loaned this trans jack to a friend 34 years ago when I closed my shop and didn't have a lift anymore. Put a lift in my current garage and he's since retired so I went and picked up the jack. Didn't work worth a darn...all the seals and o rings were shot so I bought a kit and fixed it up. Works great again, and transmission jobs will be SO much easier! IMG_1688.jpg

My condolences on the loss of your buddy.

  16. I've been a bit of a sissy about not wanting to work in the unheated garage during this mild winter so far. In fact, I've taken over my OT daily driver's garage space with lumber stained and ready for a carpenter to replace my deck railing. I figured I could park the DD outside under the trees for a month or so until the carpentry work is done. Well, the DD fuel pump was dead this morning so I ordered a new one from RockAuto (expected Jan. 6 or so) and will throw down a sheet of plywood under the rear of the car tomorrow and get on it as far as I can while the weather continues to be mild (mid-50s and the drizzle stopping). The DD has well over 500K on it, a 30-year-old that still runs well, has a sound tranny, brakes and engine so usually reliable short-trip transportation for my needs - until this shit happened. I'll drop the tank and do the deed, but by the time parts arrive it will have turned bitterly cold. I'm hoping I can do as much as possible tomorrow to get the tank unbolted and maybe down for the pump swap. I'm too old for this, but it's got to be done so I can get back to substitute teaching come January. If I am successful, I can get back on my '29AA. It's time to attach the body to the frame, start the wiring and hopefully fire it up when the weather starts to warm this spring.

  19. Today I finished the wiring on Papaw. I was cranking the engine to build oil pressure and check the fuel pump circuit and it fired right up. I drained the gas tank 2 months ago to install the fuel pump and there must have been a little residual gas in it. Due to my profession as a diesel truck mechanic, not much scares me around machinery, but his engine starting scared the shit outta me! Open manifolds and no radiator installed yet, so no more running until at least those two items are finished. Thank you so much to Lloyd and Lumpy for all of their help and support on this project!!! I have a short video, but I’m a technology dinosaur, so I can’t figure out how to post it.

I had a good day, a guy stopped by a bought all my unneeded carburetors and parts. Need to figure out what the next load needs to be, thinking I need to clear out rear ends that I won't be using. This is getting fun. :)

I am out of space and only keeping parts that will be used or tried for the cars I have.
I still have 5 pairs of carburetors that I will play with on my race cars and all my Holley and AFB tune up parts and gaskets. Keeping all my nuts and bolts and fixens, but I still have a lot of stuff that I'll never use. Have many totes full of swap meet parts on the shelf. It's out of control at my age.

I did that some years back, cleaned out the overhead storage and garden shed, no sellers remorse here, actually, quite a liberating feeling.

  24. I am slowly working on my 54 sun valley. All the suspension is done and new. It runs i need to replace one brake line and bleed the brakes. I have an accessory wheel for it and a set of restored 552s. I am hoping to send it off for sheetmetal work next month. IMG_20241115_182225.jpg

I am enjoying this knowing that I will never need these things ever.

  26. I gutted the inside of the coupe yesterday, removed shifter, seats etc. Going to improve the interior from pretty much bare bones race car to more show and comfy. Still race however, got new 5 point harness's, and roll and pleat material. Changes coming up for 2025. Will try and get some pictures as work continues. Happy New Year guys.
