I loved the sound of these but I know I’ve blown a couple of sets of them apart back in the day.

When dad was putting together a 28-9 Delivery back in the late 50's-early 60s, he got to the point of getting the chassis finished and was trying to get the little banger fired up. It was just the rolling chassis, cowl and a box to sit on. He was pretty excited and drained the battery dead cracking it over. No fire. Then he hand cranked the thing with no luck and finally tied a rope to it and had mom drag him around the neighborhood with the same results. Frustrated and running out of time that day, he worked nights then, he dropped it off at grandpa's house in Hollydale who in the 1920's was a mechanic at The White Garage in Hollywood. He was a good wrench and was also the personal mech for Ken Maynard, an old silent screen Cowboy star. Grandparent's house had a long driveway that had 2 strips of cement, grass in the center running under a carport ending at the garage. When dad got home the following morning grandpa called him, didn't say a word and held the phone to the kitchen window that was under the carport, dad could hear the chug chug of the A bone idling under the carport. He asked what he did to get her running? Grandpa said "put gas in it".
At every opportunity mom would remind him of that.

The only shots I have of that car.

Finished and sold to shop down on 2nd street in Belmont Shore.

As luck would have it we have a neighbor who has a completely dissembled '28 delivery stashed in his garage/shop. I'm on his long list of guys that want it. Fingers crossed.

Yeah I can say that happened with me and an air cooled VW. Had the engine out for a month for a rebuild with the fuel line clamped off but not off enough. I got the privilege of hearing my mom yell out the window “ is there gas in it “? #%&@$ of course there is, famous last words.

I've posted this before but I watched a high school friend destroy a 68 mustang notch with a piece of rebar after working all day long on a no-start condition that he eventually figured out was a no-fuel condition.

We left before his step-mother came home, but when she did she started calling local hospitals after finding the car out front and him not there.

I wasn't about to try to stop him. That's how young men end up dead.

Starter rollers at OCIR. It could be tricky for the drivers first time.
