How about an option for the OT Nova, rare, but it probably didn't stand the test of time. The Sky Roof! 1972 -73 these were available, numbers I'm finding indicate less than 17,000 cars total had this feature.

@Deuces - It was a 1974 thing. Others with the package included the Vega and Impala.
Yeah, I don't remember 'em either!

Yeah, Ford did something like this in '73 for their cars...

The Spirit of America Chevys were a big thing around me. Seemed every other car was one.

The Lee Eliminators Nova from '72, and the "Disco Nova" they never finished. I think Keith Turk has it now.

76 NOVAS .....how wide was the rear end housing?
Was the V-8 and 6 the same piece?
Buddy of mine may need a new one.......(How hard are they to re-build?)
Would a 'stock' rear end with 3.83:1 posi hold up to a stout 383 with turbo 350 trans ?

Probably not. The 10 bolt rear is good to 400 hp and about the same torque without slicks.

8.5 is reasonably strong, if you are running street tires it should be fine behind a stout strreet engine. If you're running drag radials or slicks, or nitrous, probably want to run a cast rear cover with a built-in girdle.

Anything 68-79 will fit, and that should include 70-81 camaro.

upload_2025-1-14_3-16-47.png HA! That photo makes me chuckle. It was a short lived fad in So Cal and plenty of folks spent money to get the "look."

    Hello,

After my brother and I got married and moved out of our old Caspian Avenue house in the Westside of Long Beach, it had been 16 years living and creating our lifestyle in that old small house. I tried to teach my mom to drive the 58 3 speed stick Impala, as it was handled down to me from my brother and father. I tried, got somewhat successful and then the C&O Stick Hydro stage of our 58 Impala came into play. So, the effort was all good for everyone. Ha!

But, as we moved out, our mom still did not have a car of her own. She tried for most of her life and made do with walks to the neighborhood grocery store, and such trips, driving the C&O Stick Hydro Impala. But, she did need her own car. So, my wife and I took her shopping and she decided on a dark blue Chevy Nova two door sedan. She walked into the dealer lot with us and went right over to that blue Chevy and said, “This is it…”

So, for the next few weeks, my wife and I drove around with her in the Nova to get used to it. Every time we visited Grandma, we took her out and she drove to the nearby stores for her weekly stuff. With us hanging on and bracing ourselves inside the roomy car. Ha!

The trunk was big enough to carry our son’s BMX bike anywhere we went, the harbor, beachfront boardwalks and to the neighborhood parks with long curving sidewalks… (even to our old elementary school with the vast smooth playground surfaces.)

She even allow us to take her Chevy Nova sedan on an extended summer road trip up to Northern California, while camping in the coastal parks and beaches along the way to S.F. Bay Area. Yes, the trunk was so large that even the old orange, large canvas peaked dome heavy tent fit rolled up, along with a Coleman stove, cooler, suitcases, and necessities. The v8 motor ran great until we got to the middle of Yosemite heading East toward the Tioga Pass.

Now, due to the elevation, it started to sputter, but still able to drive down to the other side of the high mountain range. Once back on a lower elevation, Highway 395, it ran great through the desert and up into the local area mountains, while heading all the way home.

During this road trip, we wished it had American Racing 5 spoke wheels. We asked if our mom wanted some new wheels, but she was happy with the stock custom wheels. Then we knew the lowered rake version would have looked cool, but not the raised up version. She had a hard enough time looking over the tall/wide hood for parking and driving. The lowered rake would have allowed her to see better, but she opted not to have any modifications.

At the time of her ownership, there was a period of time where crazy looking similar models roamed the streets. They got stopped many times, until they were given fix-it tickets for various violations of the vehicle code by the local police or CHP that roamed the streets on /off of the freeways. (no mud flaps to cover wide tires, front view obstructions, license plate too high, and loud noises, etc.)

She never got a ticket in her stock Chevy Nova Sedan. It was specifically for our mom and she liked her chosen model of car for her needs. Eventually, we sold the Chevy Nova to a young couple. It had 16k miles (5000 of which we put on during various road trips with the borrowed car.) in 13 years of ownership. The size finally got to our mom and she opted for a smaller foreign make of car. Easier to get in and drive and drive into the narrow opening between the old house spaces. ..YRMV

20210605_145451.jpg 20210605_145715.jpg A young guy I know bought this '78 from a friend of mine. He's slowly working on it. Sporadically, possibly spastically.. Got his own ideas. He's talking LS now. Already told him, I will buy the 1970 300 hp 350 that's in it now.

Those are great starter cars. Basically a Camaro on McDonald's budget. I had a super low mileage '78.
