My very first car was a 55 hardtop. I got it when I was 12 years old with my paperboy earnings. Paid 40 bucks for it , I owned it from 1972- 2000.

Then I went to the KKOA leadsled show as a passenger with my pal Red in his 50 Merc. That show changed my life as far as what kind of cars I liked. My car got nosed and decked, shaved handles, lowered and painted black with wide whites and flipper caps 551.JPG 552.jpeg 552.jpg

With the new 265 ci V8, Chevrolet went from a ''practical car'' to a performance machine. Total reset for the brand's image.

I’ve worked on several 55’s, but have never owned one. Always liked them though.

Bought my 4-door in '81, and my 1st series pickup in '92. I still have both.

  10. Happy Birthday to "Stubby":D

Love my '55 & had a blast with it this year, unfortunately it sits broken in the shop currently. Just like ev erything else that was my shit show (2024), he was comfortably stored away for winter when the Wife says....My son is coming out for a visit, why don't you take him for a ride in Stubby since it is nice out today & he has never been in anything like that.... You guessed it, I broke something in the top end drivers side with the last 7k holeshot!

I have to confess though that the '57 is my favorite of the"TRI-5s" & have yet to own one

    God Bless
    Bill

Then there was the 50 millionth GM car, a gold '55 Bel Air. This is a recreation.

  14. No birthday cake for this 55.:( Just a sad story. Also the only photo that I have of Dads 55 Delray. My Dad bought this 55 Chevy new. Then in 1957 a Nash ran a stop sign, and it got totaled. Dad, and mom were in the front seat. My little brother, and I were in the rear seat. Good news is that no one was seriously hurt. My Dad then bought a brand new 57 Chevy. The 2nd photo is of my little brother, myself in the {middle}, and my mom with our new 57.:) 234.jpg 382.jpg

A set of the original gold plated Trico wipers was discovered and used on the car.

Word is that the gold plating on the rest of the trim cost $5000 per gallon!

Nope, just helping the missus take down Christmas.
Though I have been mulling over in my head how to respond to this thread, because, like, you know, I'VE NEVER OWNED A 55 CHEVY, specifically a two-ten two door sedan.
So, you know, it is kind of hard to celebrate, because IT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.
    Maybe I should sell something!

The 1955 Chevrolet Del Ray was an interesting package. Only available on a 2 door, 210, sedan only. The handsome interior was the key component.

Put me down for a Nomad. Mostly primered, mostly black, metallic blue hood.
Warmed up 283 3spd Hurst different diffs ( what ever was cheap when I busted them )
Too tall rear suspension. Adequate height in front.
Bought it for $75 in sold it 3 years for $225
    ;):D:oops::(

The Nomad was a beauty! This one was once owned by actor Bruce Willis.
