Art & Inspiration FRIDAY ART... first of 2025

Hello,

My wife saw me drawing a custom, Avanti Sedan for a story about my dad almost purchasing a new model in 1963. He liked the leather interior aroma and comfy seats. My mom liked the style, although it was a lot different than the stodgy Buick sedans she knew well. My brother and I liked the supercharged motor.

Our dad was in his 4 year new car buying spree. His 57 Buick Roadmaster was a nice car and his first two door sedan. Now, he was looking at the new Avanti. His friend in Los Angeles knew of a sales guy at the local dealer and sent our dad over to the location. When he came home, he told us about the Avanti sedan.

We knew of the 1963 Avanti sedan due to the fact that it had a supercharged (Paxton centrifugal style) motor and was one of the only cars from Detroit with a supercharger. It was noted as “not so fast,” so it would have been fine for our dad. But, we were disappointed that it was not even close to our 58 Impala in speed and e.t. at the drags. As hot rod teens, we knew what we could do to make it fast, but the Avanti was for our dad’s daily driver.

We thought the Avanti sedan was odd looking, but with the right color, it could be overlooked. It was listed as a true 4 person seating sedan. But, in looking at one close up, it was not roomier than the back seat of our dad’s old 57 Buick sedan. We opted out of any further family driving road trips, due to us having to sit in the back seat of the Buick, so, advertisement or not, it was not for the two brothers.

Because we were getting into surfing with a flourish, a station wagon version would have swayed us to use as a family vacation driver. A driver to Camp Pendleton surf spots or down to our secret places in Baja, Mexico coastline. Now, that would have been the ultimate… leather luxury with sleeping quarters right on a cliff top or sandy water side location. YRMV

Made kokopelli for my wife for Xmas from a run over street sign.And polished it with buffer and brasso, which may work nice on valve covers!

 

THE '31 FRONT FENDERS, GRILLE , VISOR, & front Bumper. Might even be a '29 Chevy rear fender... DON'T LOOK TO BAD....with a '29 Ford body...... 2nd thoughts, body might be a sedan delivery with panels replaced with window.
