Hot Rods Unethical treatment on Ebay

  1. Avoid chopt92882 on Ebay! I purchased this NHRA Museum jacket from him around 3 weeks ago for the "Buy it Now" price of $325. I paid right away also. 12 hours later he canceled the order claiming the item was stolen and he no longer had it. I had a feeling this was a lie and left negative feedback which he claimed was unfair. Today he relisted the jacket for a "Buy it Now" price of $600. I was lied to and his actions are unethical. He has been reported to Ebay. Screenshot_20250104_172044_eBay.jpg

  2. Can you not report this behavior to Ebay?

  3. Yes, I have reported him. I am not sure if it will do any good.

Probably found out it was worth more. No $$ lost, not really a scam, just the unethical and bad business.

I would think you should be protected with PayPal as well.

Hopefully you paid though paypal and did not use friends and family. Then you can request a refund though Paypal. Copy and paste his "It got stolen" comment and the new listing for your reason as to why you want a refund but scammers usually don't want Paypal.

The OP has not said that he did not get his money refunded. I would think he would have mentioned that if it was the case. The complaint just seems to be that he missed out on the jacket. Not a big deal, but the seller sure does have a shitty attitude towards doing business. Good to put out a warning.

Of course, if the money was not refunded it is an entirely different box of frogs.

  8. I was refunded my money via PayPal. My intention here is to let folks know the unethical way I was treated. This guy appears to sell hot rod related items on Ebay. I wouldn't want someone elseto be treated like this. Also, yeah I am pissed off!!

I've had this happen on 2 different occasions (2 different vendors) with '50s & 60s Hot Rod magazine lots that I won for great cheap prices, paid right away and 2 or 3 days later got a cancel notice and that they were sold locally and I was refunded on both. As long as you got your money back, don't lose too much sleep over it.

I saw an ad on the HAMB classifieds in the first couple minutes since it was posted. The guy had a twisted Ford front axle for $300. I told him I’d pay full price if he’d ship it to me in Iowa. He said no. Then shortly after he raised his price to $400. Sounds fishy to me.

I quit buying from Ebay when I discovered they require method of payment info BEFORE you even get to place a bid.
Yeah.....they wanted my card info before I got to bid.

Well maybe you are far better off tucking the 3fiddy away and calling it a lesson learned . But now, you can save 250 and buy the thing direct. Well it isn't the old one but if you plan to wear it rather than put it in a display case it still has cool factor at local rod trots. https://nhramuseum.org/product/nhra-museum-varsity-jacket/ Screenshot (1847).png

I find it a bit difficult to drum up a bunch of sympathy for someone who feels they were slighted on a deal on a $325 jacket where no money was lost. You just have to be careful with eBay. Last week, I scored two excellent deals after weeks of finding nothing.

  26. Seller should be tied to a car and dragged!

  27. I'm not looking for sympathy. You read it wrong if that is what you think. I'm just putting it out there that this dude is unethical and didn't follow through on his end of a deal. I'm sure if it happened to you, you may not be happy about it either.

Good on you for calling him out. Letting everyone know how he deals may make it more difficult for him to practice his unethical practices in the future. Had a somewhat similar experience with a buyer who experienced buyer remorse two months after the transaction. Offered adequate proof of complete buyer satisfaction to PayPal and they refunded funds and charged the buyer a penalty. Had the satisfaction of providing lying buyer with an "Up Yours" courtesy of PayPal.
