History Early drag racing photos

Sept 1961 at Green Valley Raceway, C/S trophy run between a pair of '55 Chevys. Dale Smith in the near lane took the win running an ET of 16.63 @ 81.89 MPH.

 

1957 NHRA Nationals at Oklahoma City, OK. B/Street Roadster winner Carl T. Stone from Dallas, TX in his '32 Ford over Alan Goughnour from York, PA in his '29 Ford pickup.

That's a clean looking little digger they have there. I like everything about it. Trailer too. I wonder if any of those boys went on to do bgger and better things in drag racing?

 

Kenny Hirata, Phil Hobbs and their driver Bobby Vodnik with the 1963 Indy Nationals Top Gas Eliminator trophy. Vodnik beat Don Garlits in the final.

 

Looks like another national record for Cook & Bedwell at Colton. (That's me in the crowd with the white T-Shirt on.)
