What is that body made of? Appears that to fix the front wing, you cut both sides off and fabricated new ones out of aluminum or something? That will likely be much more durable that whatever the rest is made of.

  2. Unknown plastic. But an ABS plastic “welding rod” stuck to it
    https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/go-carts-ok-indy-styled-go-cart-rebuild.1328470/
both wings were broke. So we made new ones from scrap aluminum.
The busted plastic was welded, stapled and finished out with panel bond

No, I recognized the tube. Just never saw one with the other stuff on it and got confused.

IMG_4074.jpeg I’ve had it a while. My uncle bought is used around 1971. Been riding this since I was a kid. Talked him out of it a few years back. Son said it’s time to get it fixed.
cleaned out the tank, cleaned up the carb, got to replace a brake cable and make a throttle return spring (maybe beef up the current one) and replace a tube.
We got it running this evening.

It was the only one I had . It came out of a control box for a massage device that I found in an old dump site .

Well…I worked on my Chevelle today but still don’t have it fixed. Starts right up but then acts like it loses ignition or something. Anyway, didn’t have much time to troubleshoot today with 10 other projects around the house too. I also worked on my 56 enough to get it started and say I drove it the last day of the year. Maybe I’ll take it to the car wash tomorrow. I think it feels neglected.

  19. been chasing some issues, intermittent high idle, intermittent hard starting, sound was off...
went to pull the wires, found 1 issue right away with the cap..
checked the plug wires, they all checked out.

    Replaced cap & rotor.
Had a hunch to check choke cable... Found the choke cable needed "re-adjusting" after replacing the motor mounts... still chasing the intermittent high idle and intermittent hard starting ... IMG_2341.jpeg

I use a fuel filter for a diesel truck , it does keep the solvent clean plus I use a scotch brite pad in the tub drain to catch what I miss on the initial cleaning.

Mercedes 3.0L V6 diesel (OM642). I suppose the one plus is unlike a Ford FE I don’t need a crane to lift the intake.

  26. No wonder it doesn’t look familiar. I guess we didn’t get that one here’s in the US.
Last Mercedes I worked on was an 80’s OM 617 turbo diesel. That was much simpler than everything afterwards.

I’m pretty sure you get it over there, they also used it in Jeeps and Chrysler 300, there’s literally a trunk full of stuff normally above what you can see now!

  28. I became disinterested in all things produced by Daimler-Benz after my OM603 powered W124. Both the car and engine were a steaming pile of shit.
I test drove a E320 CDI back around 2005. I was impressed by all the power it had and that it didn’t really sound like a diesel. I just didn’t feel the $55K list price was worth it.
Best of luck with your Benz.
