Similar to “wrong info” thread but this is about film, tv, etc.
I recently watched an interesting movie about the 6888 squadron of American WAC on Netflix I believe.

Anyway a young Jewish kid around Philadelphia is kind of going out with the young black girl much to the disdain of the white female students. The young guy has a rumble seat car and they go out for a spin. Eventually we find out that he wants to join the airforce and the Gil’s says she’s going to miss him so. He replies that tootling around in this old Chevy has given him a better chance of surviving!

Now the very first seen his plane is shot down and he’s dead. The thing is that that “old Chevy” was actually a ‘36 or ‘37 FORD!!! I guess not knowing the difference between a Ford and a Chev sealed his fate! LOL

Ha ha. I watched that movie the other night and told the same thing to my girlfriend about the car.

  3. 36 Ford ! I seen the same movie. Noticed that mistake in brands myself because I'm a 36 Ford owner.

I caught the same thing. Pretty sure it's a '36 Ford. I just saw the movie about Bob Dylan. Car looked pretty correct, but I'm pretty sure the Triumph motorcycle he's riding didn't have an electric starter in the mid '60's. Could be wrong though.

Less than accurate to downright misleading information in the movies , in books , on the net ate par for the course , details about history aren't important & are seldom correct .

Just like Toad and Milliner having 327's in '62. Nowadays they have a person called a set doctor who's supposed to catch these things.
BTW what's the name of this movie you're watching?

Yep, cars are only props to movie people. It's just as easy to cut a board wrong as right, a carpenter told me that one. Why couldn't they just say Ford? It just slays me when they smash 'em up, too.
Firearms in films: How about shotguns with no recoil that can blow a man off his feet, muzzle flash in daylight, endless ammo, blah blah..

Funny how these things are so noticeable to us, but 99% of the audience would never know it was wrong. :D

It's called creative license...... Gets them off the hook every time. And the fact that it is fiction.

I too watched it and made the same comment about a MAJOR blunder over something as obvious as the source of which major car manufacturer made the car. I went nuts about it and halfway through the movie my wife said shut up.

    Hollywood is simply magical
they can make tires squeal on dirt
    and
it’s wonder how easily they make cars explode in an accident

I watched that recently, thought it was pretty good, I even had myself second guessing what I saw and heard them say about that car, thought naw, they couldn't get it that wrong, I often wonder if they do things like that intentionally, Hollywood, sheesh!

My late wife would refuse to watch any military movie with me because I would constantly point out incorrectly worn uniforms, rank and insignia wrongly placed or upside-down, etc.

I noticed that as well. As to the AG comment concerning 327s, I don't recall Milner claiming that the engine in his coupe was a 327, and I always wrote Toad's claim about the '58 having one off as just some more bullshit that he was using in an attempt to impress Debby (as if she would even care about what size engine it had under the hood). My wife worked for various airlines for years, and constantly points out glaring (to her) mistakes in movies concerning airports. One faux pas I've noticed a lot over the years concerning cars is when they're supposed to be driving down the road and the column shifter is still obviously in Park.

As for AG, the 327 was new in '62 and would have been a pretty hot item for rodders of the day. So, it's possible...

The '36 if rodded, naturally would have had a Chevy engine....so...
(I didn't see that movie, no idea the time frame).:D

Most movie attendees are lucky to be able to identify old cars as automobiles , let alone any details about them , to them it's a means of conveyance , that's all .

A Hallmark movie used my youngest son’s mid-70’s vette roadster a while back. It was a 4-speed car and no one on the set knew how to drive a standard. Anyway, I was good with that since that meant I had to move it around instead of letting them mess anything up. Then, the main actor didn’t have enough hand strength to open the door with the outside handle. So, the old guy that brought the car had to open it for him so he could act like he was opening it for the main actress. :D

Dillinger movie movie (Public Enemies 2009) features several cars that were made after 1934, the year of his death.

Don't know why they got it so wrong, it's not like pre 34 cars are rare.

As a 71 year old, I have spent thousands of hours watching T.V. and countless hours of being in movie theaters enjoying films on the big screen.
One of my favorite Black and White films is Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove"
Seeing how this particular film was a total spoof about a controversial topic, the film has a ton of great moments in it.
Kubrick who was a stickler for authentic elements, I am sure that he intentionally gave us aircraft geeks, something to sink our teeth into.
When you see the B-52 flying low and there is a shadow of it moving along on the ground, The shadow you see on the ground is a B-17 which is a 4 engine, prop driven plane from WW2 with a very distinctive rounded tail as opposed to the square tail of the B-52.
    Stanley loved a good joke!

Several years ago, I watched a movie (made in Germany) about the Hindenburg, and a few minutes into the film, there was a view of the sky with a jet plane flying overhead.

Parts of the 1923 show were recently filmed in nearby Lockhart, TX. I got a sneak peak at their movie cars. Some of the Model T's they used were '26-'27. This makes my eye twitch.
