Each time we build or even just work on a hot rod, gives us insite to next one <or it should.
The last "T-bucket" 23T Ford Factory size {that is small an take carefull planning}I built with my son,the way he wanted, but did get some ideas from Dad,he liked an used!
We mocked up the cockpit a lot of times, too get the best fit of every thing.
Put a number of things, you don't see much, and I'll shair 2= The power is SBC with 350auto,an you can note how we made tranny tunnel as small as pos. that helps foot room, plus the brake pedal is a wide power brake pad>that is centered infront of steering column=can get to brake with ether foot/each side of column{ That give you about as much foot room as pos in a 23 T,letting your leg also be forward. Note that column is home made an braced too dash and firewall,an not a fat column. Angle an hight steering wheel was worked out from many mock-ups .

Also one big prob is storage space,is limited in small rods,so the seat was designed{ First for comfort an then to us the space behind it> with out moving it forward at all.
Back when we did the last 23T with my son,I also did a HAMB tech, with a lot of pic. and tips; Handy info for using the room you do have!!

I've never built one. I really like the proportions of this one from a series printed in Car Craft in 1964 - 65. Scan-220421-0001.jpg

    I built my steel bodied 26 T RPU but I don’t consider it a T bucket.
To me it’s a hot rod based on the remains of a T Touring body.

  4. I've built several T buckets starting back in high school. Helped a couple friends build them. Built a few frames for other guys and set up suspension stuff on others.

These were all hot rod style; not the goofy foo foo stuff that a lot of T buckets are now.

Nothing quite like running down the road in open wheel T bucket.

Yuppers in the early 70's. 61 283, cast iron glide and a 56 F100 rear axle.

Thinking back one of the biggest single expenses was the Purple horney mufflers. If I had towed it to a muffler shop and had a couple of pipes bent and put a pair of glass packs under it with scavenger pipes I could have saved some money and burns on the legs.

My buddy Paul Charles welded up the frame for a half rack of Bud and did a lot of the rest of the welding on it. 5 dollar Dallas swap meet headers that Laddie Segrest told me were "obsolete" .
Most of the T part of the body came out of a fence row about two miles from the house and was hauled home in the trunk of a 62 Impala.

My wife would sneak it out and run around town in it. She ran out of gas once and the local cop ran and got her enough gas to get home with it.

I had about an honest 600 in it in 1975 making it about a 3200 buck investment in today's dollars.
I've been thinking seriously about building another one using a lot of stuff I had for the Model A Vic that I sold including the flathead.

Not while I owned it, I don't know what the guy did with it when I sold it. I wasn't a Street Rodder reader, don't kow why. It was in a "Gentlemen's Magazine", Club International, February 2000. It was a two-page layout but easy to miss. Lol. Also, some shots in one of Tex Smith's books.

Yes had one. Traded an old 29 A Ford hot rod for it. Had it about 5 years. Got rained on snowed and sleeted on in it. Wife liked to drive it. Fun car but not very good for long distance rides 3FC3C6F9-7218-409A-AB60-791C645DC669.jpeg B2587668-8F50-40A4-BF15-30B104858DC9.jpeg 2569908C-1EDF-4E97-B67B-DA9C4E868177.jpeg

^^^^^That's nice! Sits well and nothing gaudy about it. Just a good, clean T roadster.

The Track Roadsters I have built, are like an early version of a T-Bucket, buggy springs on both ends, split bones, etc. The main difference is they are 6 to 8" longer, have high pipes, bumpers, nerfs, and belly pans. 2013-06-23 215659.jpg

  17. No , never built or owned one, thought they were cool in high school, those and the c cab panels. My tastes have refined, but I bet they are a blast to drive.

We saw the building trades guys building a house & then selling it & thought "Why not a Car?"
We took our case to the shop teachers & they got the OK to build one. We built a Bird Automotive Kit w/ a 265 iron glide & rear from a donated '56 wagon.
We had an add in the school paper wanting donated items for it. We had quite the collection of parts shortly after that! It got so much interest the school Auctioned it on the front steps of the school! I remember when the kit was delivered, everbody waiting for it like it was Christmas morning! Painted it w/ spray cans donated by the local hdw store. This was 1969 & after that the students went krazy with project requests & the school wouldn't sponsor any more cars.
I had a steel turtle deck after that but never did anything with it, moved off & left it sitting there behind that house...:(

Did you narrow the body? It looks smaller yet than the Whatever project body.

Yes, My son & I built him one with an old Anderson Industries glass body. Buick Odd Fire V-6 with anto tranny. Lots of fun, like driving a fast go kart. Pictures in my albums, wheels not HAMB friendly.
