Get the mechanical stuff sorted out then drive until you figure out what you want to do if anything.

I thought the 54s all came with Powerglides? :)

Neat car...it will take a bunch of work to make it drivable, but would be nice to see that happen before anyone starts with undoing the fantastic body mods. But I doubt it will go that way.

    Are we sure it's a 54 and not a 55? Just asking

Hiw many times have we seen people post the wrong year of cars? And even though a 54 came from the factory with a powerglide, it could have been replaced with a manual trans.

Yeah. My point was that the hydraulic clutch didn't replace mechanical clutch linkage, since it came with an automatic transmission.....

Neat! Clean it up and drive it, I would. The very fact that so many clever comedians on here have had their fun means you have something special.

I’d have to get that thing running and ride it around a year or two before I cut all the weird off it. Hit some regional corvette shows and be deadpan when people react.
That thing is fantastic, but I don’t think I would be able to keep it like that forever.

I think just getting rid of the spoiler and spider web paint would make it cool. I dont mind the front spoiler and maybe lose the license plate bracket. I would drive it a while as is though too for a little for the laughs.

    It's got character.

    Where did it come from?

Stop bashing it. Wash it, get it running and drive it. There WILL be someone out there who will know about it. It's unique... why not just leave it this way.

I find it so strange that when one of us finds a old Hot Rod, Custom, Race Car, many of you say "Oh save it, leave it like it is, preserve it" .... so why not this?

After being here for 25 years, I just don't get it sometimes.

Well, I’d do an @anthony myrick , drive it have fun.
Traditional hot rod or Custom? Probably not, but have fun with it as is.
Or maybe those that don’t like things can work it out with the OP and make all the changes that you’d like it to have?

I bet there won’t even be a line.

Hopefully he didn’t ditch us. The OP was simply looking for info and history on the car. He stated he thought the car is kind of ugly, but I don’t believe he was looking for input on the aesthetics of the car.

Before I drove it around town I'd need to go rent a super hero costume to wear. To be traditional, and conceal my identity so nobody I know would know it was me!

If you buy a house and a crackhead had remodeled the kitchen with green shag carpeting and lava lamps in the ceiling and a fire pit for a stove would one think oh this is some historic old school history and try and preserve it ??

Sometimes bad ideas and design are just that .

It's up to the owner if he likes it and wants to be seen in it.
I doubt this was a cheap purchase and if its not what he wants change it .

I doubt most here would keep a car like this that's worth say $30,000 or more if it was remotely normal looking as is just to piss of purest.

I'd love to repaint and clean up my 57. It's kind of ugly being red and yellow and cobbled up. It's not the historical 45 year old crappy paint work stopping me . It's the fact I'd need $20,000 to make it half right and then do the interior. Im not proud of it being a rat trap .

These were fairly cheap cars 45 years ago and like a Honda Civic today kids and people do weird stuff to them .
Look how many people put $99 sunroofs in Cameros and fire birds and such then and ruined them value wise with bondo flared fenders . Was cool then but not so much now .

If i found the OP'S car in a barn cheap I'd drag it home and change it to make it mine. Short of something making it sime famous build and more valuable as is you cant hurt it much going forward

    Thanks
I bet you would like it more if it did not have mustang seats and a really bad paint job that is flaking off it and such.
It looks good from 50 feet away . It had a big snorkel scoop on the hood when i got it so I redid that years ago .

Its a old racer car put back on the street 35 years ago or so .
the phone cord for wiring was a special touch I'm sure some might find historical and should have been preserved LOL . It was apparently well known in the Fremont area around 1979 and on . It was in car craft in black primer in 79 with a 427 BBC but its nothing famous or note worth other than it ran 10,s and the editor went for a ride in it

It was really cobbled when I got it back in the late 80's and still is in many ways .
I don't tear it apart because it will likely never get back together. then again, its still a 57 Vette and its mine . Took me 30 years go just get the correct gauges . One I found on this site ;)

I have some 15x10 and 15x6 magnesium 5 spokes I hope to get on it this summer and remove the very early polished center lines that were the big thing in 1972 or so until the mid 80's .

If I was lucky enough to have the OPs car sitting here id document it and then change it to make it mine moving it forward in its historic path .
Like I said above if it had say 700 HP and could run on a track and walk the walk that wing gives it say maybe in satin black with some 5 spokes or other vintage race wheels and race rubber and some race goodies it might get a pass . But as a want to be show or movie car that's wearing tired paint and not really cool as is id have to make some serious changes . If its really really fast then the looks get a pass . Because then if some one talks trash you can say want to race ;)

I would get a kick out of seeing it in satin black run around a track in some vintage class road race or track day holding its own against other sports cars spinning a SBC at 8000 RPM OR if it showed up at a drag race and pulling off a 9 second pass with some blown injected BBC or even a early blown Hemi with 12 or 14 inch rears and skinnies in the front and on the wheelie bars for the first 100 feet LOL If it can do that then the wing gets a pass. Fast always gets a pass.

It would even look better with some old polished slot mags if it was fast .
If the Tijuana Taxi had a wing and was doing wheelies most here would see it as kind of cool .( I would) Well the OPs car just needs some of that race car stuff and say 700 HP

For myself there's no comparison from your Corvette and the one that started this thread. I like yours and even with some issues it's still one I'd be fine driving just as it is in your picture!

at the end of the day if is mostly forever under those mods. There is bones to work with.
This car remind me of this sweet GM built one for a quick sec.
