looking for a wiring diagram for my Dixco Model 77 tachometer. it has two white with red stripe wires, a smaller gauge white with black and red stripes, and the 8 and a 6 cyl posts.. I can't seem to find anything on the model 77 or this wire configuration photo with cup removed:
can you remove that inner cup, and see if perhaps the wires had been replaced? Wires like that were typically used inside complicated electronic equipment....and the Dixco stuff all suggests black, white, and green.
Having all three have the same color and trace (the Black is also over White/Red) makes me guess either dixco used the same wire and added the additional color with the other 2 wiped off over the years or as @squirrel mentions, someone rewired. Both of the others seem to have portions that have double trace of Red. Curious.

Standard tachometer wiring is usually : Red - Power Black - Ground White - Light Green - Tach Signal If not, "Ground" and "Light" should be be able to be determined with a little looking; the other two might be a little harder, but considering their use, you may be able to figure it out.
Dixco wiring had Black as Ground only when it was Positive Ground car. With normal Negative Ground wiring, White was ground, Black was ignition power. like lots of other things, ie. houses, trailer lights, etc.
yup, a bit of a mess inside.. hopefully I can just replace the odd wires and clean up their soldered connections. to be continued

I hear ya, it may end up being a parts tach, but I was hoping to use it or maybe find another Dixco, they were made on Vashon Island WA, where I spent most of my formative years.
not finding wiring diagram for the model 77 yet but here is a picture of the back of one I just ordered, used, untested but looks complete, hopefully between the two I can make one. looks like big black big white medium green small black
Yeah, it's not match. There are 13 threads on these. Most are not helpful here. It might be a case where it's better to tuck in modern replacement parts into this housing, like old dash clocks. I get the sentimental value and trying to fix the old stuff. He's been a mainstay here, just trying to help. fwiw the clock in my dash has the spring wind mechanism original to it. 'gives me something to do while the engine warms. all the way to the right of the dash
follow up on my Dixco tach I was lucky enough to find another matching #77 that was good internally but not so nice on the outside. mine was a mess inside but cosmetically the outside was good. simple swap made two tachs one good inside and out and one not. when wired as suggested above, ie: green negative post of coil black positive post coil white ground it seems to be working properly I have yet to attach another for comparison but it looks good. here connected to running engine edit: these tachs were made on Vashon Island WA the picture above of the dash was taken on Vashon last summer
Glad you were able to get what you wanted. Seems like it won't match, but will spark conversation and the local connection (even printed on the face) makes it work!
the Dixco tach will go on the engine test stand's control panel. it will get a couple other vintage gauges, a few toggles, buttons and bows, a keyed switch and a throttle lever. it will match the ensemble just fine. for what it's worth I did swap the tach in the dash picture out. it was replaced with a mechanical tach when I put the magneto in.
