Danny Miller, RIP, ran the Rear Gears nostalgia funny car driven by fellow Iowan Randy Baker. Danny was a diehard Ford guy and resurrected an old Fiberglass Trends body for his car.

    Just wondering...
would that be gas, alcohol, fuel, hydrogen, or something else? Some other cars run the wheels off... this would fling the hub caps off!

 WOW… That’s the earliest I’ve seen one get out of control, just coming out of water at burnout box. Must have broken right side axle as soon as it cleared water box. I had one pull front wheels up some after coming out of water box and came close to hitting Christmas tree but never at water box area.

Almost didn’t post this because of an old memory of friend and fellow competitor. But finally decided to, in order to pay respect to him. Below picture of “TURN ME LOOSE” funny car driven by Jerome (Jerry) McTaggart that was taken at PID in 1973. Unfortunately he was killed few months latter at Farmington Dragway in Farmington, NC, when he lost control and crashed just past finish line, while competing in an east coast fuel funny car circuit (ECFFCC) event that I ran some on during same period. RIP my friend.

Below is cut & paste info from motorsportmemorial.org site

    Jerry McTaggart
    Complete name: Jerome McTaggart
    Birth date: 26.Apr.1942
Birth Place: unknown, NJ, United States
    Death date: 04.Nov.1973

    Notes:
New Jersey drag racer Jerome "Jerry" McTaggart, 31, died on Sunday, 04 November 1973, as a result of injuries he sustained in a drag racing accident at Farmington Dragway - also known as Sportsman Park Dragstrip or Farmington Raceway Park - some 20 miles west of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

It is not clear whether the accident happened during a race, during practice or during a qualification run on the one-eighth-mile concrete dragstrip. McTaggart was at the wheel of his 1969 Opel GT Funny Car, powered by a Supercharged alcohol 427 inch Chevrolet engine, named "Turn Me Loose". He lost control of his car which left the track and disintegrated after crossing the finish line.

Jerry McTaggart was residing in Roselle Park, New Jersey at the time of his death. He was survived by his widow, Joyce (née Van Ness), and a four-year-old child, Bryan. Burial was in Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, Union County, New Jersey.
