Bill Burnham's baby blue highboy had a big block (FE) motor. It got more than a little coverage in Street Rodder years ago.

A 390 in an "A" Far out! The FE was Ford's small block Chevy. It was a 50's engine so you won't have to hear "well yeah it runs good but it's not traditional". I know of a guy here in FLA that has one in a `32 3- Window but regretfully I have no pics. If you're brave you can even hook them to the early Ford trans and rear via an adapter. Should'nt be too hard to find.

Oh duh I just noticed you're running a 4- speed with Halibrand. Very cool indeed. Hey if you're sbc buddies keep it up tell them the FE Ford engine was the ONLY engine in history to win the Daytona 500, the 24 Hours of LeMans and an NHRA Top Fuel ***le in the same year. It was'nt to long after that performance that the rulesmakers intervened and jiggled things around to make sure the rodents could still compete. Bet'cha they won't believe ya but it's true.

You're a little late on this swap.....The late great Bill Burnham, of Street Rodder Magazine ran a 390FE Ford mill for years in his 29 on 32 rails Model A roadster...he lengthened his frame 4" to accomodate the FE engine....firewall was uncut....

It wasn't a very popular engine for some reason, but his car was a driver...he'd go to Bonneville in it every eyar, then ride back home to CA and go to the next car event--with Bonneville Salt still on the car body....

I know that the FE 390 was a good runner....one of my best friends lost his driver's license when he was 16 and drag racing his mother's Mercury Station Wagon equipped with 390 power and a C6 automatic transmission.

If he didn't back down, the cops would have never caught him!...

    RIP Tim Stone....

My first engine was a 390 FE with a C6 in a 1976 F100, nice lumpy cam and decent gears in the rear. The truck was green, with a light green cab, an orange bed, and one brown and yellow door. It was originally all green, but I rolled it at age 15 after switching from a standard to the C6. I had to replace the cab myself. In its multi color form, there wasnt a car around that would back down from a race. Beat the hell out of all of them. :D

I got the engine in a 1949 F1 now, but it hasnt ran in ten years. That is just cause my Sister rolled the old 76 about ten years ago and I put it in the 49 within the last couple years but never finished it for favor of working on the 35.
